US Presidential candidate Ron DeSantis has declared his intention to ban central bank digital currencies (CBDC) in the United States on his first day in office if elected in 2024.

DeSantis expressed this sentiment in a recent interview with Blaze TV. The presidential candidate noted concerns about the potential issuance of digital currencies by the Federal Reserve following an economic disruption.

He criticized the Federal Reserve’s suggestion that CBDC implementation could happen without consulting the legislative and executive branches, emphasizing that such a move would require a law to be passed.

To prevent CBDC implementation, DeSantis highlighted the actions taken in Florida, where a law was passed to invalidate the recognition of CBDC within the state. He also predicted that other states would follow suit, hindering the Federal Reserve’s ability to introduce CBDC through executive action.

DeSantis warned that CBDCs, advocated by organizations like the Davos World Economic Forum, aim to replace cash and cryptocurrencies as the sole form of legal tender. Notably, US Presidential Candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has also expressed a similar view on CBDCs.

Furthermore, DeSantis raised concerns about the potential misuse of CBDC power, allowing authorities to prohibit certain purchases and potentially implementing a social credit system. He emphasized the threat CBDCs pose to American liberty and pledged to consign them to the “ash heap of history” on January 20th, 2025, if elected.

When questioned about the challenges of implementing his agenda, particularly when faced with opposition from partisan Democrats and entrenched bureaucrats, DeSantis stressed the importance of filling executive branch positions promptly.

Regarding the abuse of power within government agencies like the FBI and CIA, DeSantis proposed appointing a new FBI director on day one and emphasized the need to have like-minded individuals in positions throughout the executive branch.
