  • USDe fell to 0.9202 USDT on Binance before recovering close to its dollar peg.
  • Binance market data show the sharpest move occurred before scheduled wallet maintenance.
  • Broader USDe pricing stayed near $1, while no confirmed cause for the Binance price wick has emerged.

Ethena’s USDe briefly lost its dollar peg on Binance on September 22, with the USDE/USDT pair falling as low as 0.9202 USDT.

The move proved short-lived. Binance spot data show USDe recovered toward $0.99 within minutes and later returned close to its normal $1 trading level.

Wu Blockchain first flagged the move, reporting that USDe recovered to about 0.9996 USDT shortly after the decline. The publication also said there was no evidence connecting the move to Binance’s scheduled wallet maintenance.

Binance market data reviewed after the event put the pair near 0.9999 USDT, while the 24-hour low remained at 0.9202.

USDe Falls 8% Before Rapid Binance Recovery

The price movement developed quickly on Binance’s spot market. One-minute trading data show USDe trading close to 1.0001 USDT before the decline started shortly after 05:00 UTC.

The pair fell to 0.9946 before extending lower to 0.9630 and then 0.9320.

At about 05:04 UTC, USDe touched its session low at 0.9202 USDT. The same one-minute candle then closed around 0.9930.

USDe climbed to roughly 0.9978 by 05:06 UTC and 0.9987 during the following minute.

The 05:04 candle recorded about 9.45 million USDe in volume, according to Binance spot data. More than 8.7 million USDe of that volume appeared on the taker-buy side.

The sequence shows that the largest price dislocation lasted only several minutes rather than developing into a prolonged loss of the peg.

CoinGecko later showed USDe around $0.9998 across its aggregated market data. The platform calculates that figure from dozens of exchanges and trading markets.

Binance Maintenance Started After the Price Wick

Notably, the timing separates the USDe move from Binance’s scheduled wallet upgrade. Binance announced on September 17 that it would begin an infrastructure wallet upgrade at 06:00 UTC on September 22.

The exchange said deposits and withdrawals across its platform would pause during the work for about one hour. Binance specifically stated that token trading would not be affected

The USDe low occurred at approximately 05:04 UTC, almost an hour before that suspension was scheduled to start.

Neither Binance nor Ethena had publicly confirmed a technical cause for the USDe price move at the time of writing.

That distinction matters because several market participants discussed possible links with liquidity conditions or exchange infrastructure. Those explanations remain unconfirmed.

Traders Point to Binance Order-Book Liquidity

Several traders on X focused on the Binance order book after the sharp wick. Trader Punk2898 questioned whether a large market sell order may have moved through limited available bids. The post estimated that an order of roughly $8 million could have contributed to the move.

However, the post presented that explanation as a question rather than verified transaction attribution. No public evidence cited in the post established the identity or intent behind the trading.

Chenmo separately described USDe’s centralized-exchange order book as thin and referenced its use as collateral on Binance.

The trader also pointed to changes Binance made after an earlier USDe dislocation in October 2025.

Binance confirmed after that event that it would add USDe’s redemption price to its price-index weighting. It also introduced a minimum price limit for the USDe index as part of its risk-control changes.

Those measures apply to Binance’s risk and index framework. They do not establish what caused the September 22 spot-market wick.

Broader USDe Market Stays Near Dollar Peg

Even so, the brief Binance move did not appear in broader USDe pricing at the same scale. CoinGecko showed USDe trading near $1 after the event, with a market capitalization close to $4.92 billion.

Historical CoinGecko data also show USDe closing at $0.999798 on September 21 after spending previous sessions close to the dollar level.

The available data therefore show a sharp Binance-specific USDE/USDT price dislocation followed by a rapid recovery.

As of the latest Binance reading, the pair had returned to roughly 0.9999 USDT, while no confirmed explanation had been published for the temporary drop.
