  • Ethereum has unveiled its new Strawmap roadmap with a focus on quantum safety.
  • Vitalik Buterin details how the network’s priorities have changed since 2023.
  • The network is preparing to safeguard itself from future quantum computing risks.

Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin has unveiled the blockchain platform’s new direction, highlighting how its priorities changed since 2023. The latest Strawmap focuses on privacy, quantum safety, scalability, and security. As the blockchain prepares for post-quantum security measures, it puts greater focus on privacy and protection. According to Buterin, many of the ideas presented in the earlier roadmap have been reshuffled, replaced, or deprioritized.

Ethereum Shifts Focus in Strawmap

Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of the Ethereum blockchain, has shared an X post today, highlighting the network’s renewed focus on privacy, quantum safety, and security. Buterin detailed the way in which the latest Strawmap roadmap differs from the previous one in 2023. This underscores the changing priorities of the blockchain as it continues to evolve.

One of the main focuses in the roadmap is quantum resistance. As the blockchain industry is increasingly embracing stronger security measures to safeguard itself from potential quantum blockchain threats, Ethereum is also preparing for it. Buterin noted,

“Ethereum will be quantum-safe. Ethereum will put users’ privacy first. Ethereum will be secure. Ethereum will be censorship-resistant. Ethereum will be highly performant and scalable while satisfying the above. And Ethereum will be Lean.”

At the same time, the network is also giving more attention to privacy features. The platform is also exploring native rollups to improve scalability and efficiency. With these updates, Ethereum is making itself more secure and resistant to potential threats. The network is also making efforts to foster its growth over the long term.

Exploring a New Approach to Scaling

In addition to the above-mentioned priorities, Ethereum is also changing the way it previously approached scaling. The network is no longer trying to make all activities faster and more efficient. Instead, developers are working on specialized solutions for the activities that create demand. With this renewed approach, the Ethereum network can handle popular use cases such as token transfers and swaps. It can also make room for privacy-focused applications.

Further, Vitalik Buterin pointed to STARKS and AI-assisted verification as important parts of Ethereum’s future. STARK helps process and verify large amounts of information, and AI tools make it easier to check potential errors. When these technologies are adopted, the blockchain could become more secure in the future.

Ethereum Prepares for the Quantum Era

The Ethereum Foundation reportedly created a dedicated Post-Quantum Security team in January 2026. The move was to prepare the network for future quantum computing threats. The team, led by Thomas Coratger, is publicly documenting its post-quantum security work through the Ethereum PQ initiative.

Through regular developer testnets and supporting research into stronger cryptographic tools, the team is already testing post-quantum technology. The network is aligning its work with the NIST-based post-quantum standards.
