  • ZCG approved approximately $461,500 for the first nine milestones of the ZECsy outreach program.
  • Approval covers nine monthly milestones, with a $45,833 first payment on Sept. 1.
  • Critics on X want ZCG shut down, and trader TraderSZ says he added to his short.

A Zcash outreach grant has sparked community debate after photos from an Exxxotica booth spread on X. The ZECsy team initially requested $588,000 for a 12-month outreach program. It later revised the proposal to $550,000, with Zcash Community Grants (ZCG) approving funding for the first nine monthly milestones, totaling approximately $461,500.

What Was Approved

Zcash Community Grants (ZCG) approved the revised plan on August 31. It covers only the first nine monthly milestones, worth about $461,500 according to grant records. The first payment of $45,833 was made on September 1.

The money goes to the ZECsy team, led by Mylo Bennett. Bennett pitched the plan on the Zcash forum on August 3. It runs from September 2026 to August 2027 and covers crypto conferences, adult industry shows, and weekend workshops. Earlier funded events included ETHDenver and Devconnect in Buenos Aires.

The original pitch listed eight crypto events, four adult industry events, and eight workshops. Payments are made a month ahead, so the team can book travel early and avoid rush fees. Each payment depends on the last month’s work, with a forum report due within seven days of month-end and a trip report within a week of each event.

Why the Team Wants It

The team says adult industry workers and other gig workers often struggle with banks, so private payments solve a real problem. Its proposal reports 912 people at a Zcash side event in Berlin and more than 600 visitors to its booth at an earlier Chicago show.

Progress will be measured by the number of new shielded wallets created at each event and by how many workshop attendees stay active in support chats on Signal. Supporters on the forum include pacu of the ZODL team and shieldedmark of Shielded Labs.

Pushback

Criticism grew on X on October 26. Users objected strongly and said Zcash Community Grants should be shut down, asked for a detailed cost breakdown, or suggested hiring local people instead. One wrote that privacy should not be tied to degeneracy. Trader TraderSZ said he added to his short position in ZEC after seeing the photos.

Most of the argument is about who should pay for this outreach, not whether it should happen. Critics do not want community grant money spent on this audience. Supporters say Zcash will only grow if it reaches people that other crypto projects overlook.
