The global crypto market cap rose 0.9% to $2.74 trillion over the past 24 hours. Bitcoin traded at $77,275.51, up 0.6% on the day and down 2.9% over the past week. Ethereum changed hands at $2,514.30, up 2.7% in 24 hours and 2.4% over seven days.
BNB rose 3.2% to $734.71, up 1.8% weekly. XRP gained 1.6% to $1.36, down 2.5% over the week. Solana added 2.3% to $101.84, though it’s roughly flat over seven days at 0.4%.
U.S. August CPI came in hotter than expected, with core CPI up 0.3% month over month against a 0.2% forecast. The data pushed market pricing for a September 16 Fed rate hike to roughly 90%, up from about 70% a day earlier.
The CPI release briefly rattled markets. A whale’s $70 million BTC long position was liquidated after Bitcoin flash-crashed to $76,046, according to on-chain analyst EmberCN, before the whale reopened a smaller long at $77,875. Total crypto liquidations reached $684 million over the prior 24 hours, according to CoinGlass, with shorts hit hardest at $423 million against $261 million in long liquidations.

Hunter Biden’s LAPTOP token led trending searches, down 4.8% to $0.385 as it continued stabilizing after its volatile launch. Pons followed, down 1.1% to $0.5996, and STONK rose 5.3% to $0.2723. Among top gainers, Lobster surged 15.3% to $0.1262, ZZZ climbed 163.3% to $0.087516, and Storj jumped 110% to $0.058761.
Liquid Network Ransom Standoff
Blockstream rejected the Liquid Network attacker’s demand for a 10% ransom on the roughly 598.5 BTC still outstanding, worth approximately $47.3 million, and called for its full return. The company said in a statement that “unauthorized acquisition of assets and refusal to return them constitutes a crime, not responsible disclosure.”
The attacker had already returned 3,400 BTC after Blockstream confirmed a bridge node vulnerability was patched. Blockstream said it will pursue law enforcement, exchanges, and on-chain forensics teams to trace the funds if they aren’t returned.
Institutional and Corporate Moves
Nvidia is in talks to invest up to $10 billion in Anthropic’s initial public offering, which is targeting a raise of up to $100 billion at a valuation of approximately $2 trillion, according to a Caixin report.
Strategy’s market cap surpassed Jack Dorsey’s Block Inc, making it the 217th-largest U.S. listed company, according to BitcoinTreasuries.NET data. Standard Chartered initiated coverage on Sky’s SKY token with a $0.325 price target by the end of 2028, implying roughly five times upside, while projecting Ethereum at $18,000 and Bitcoin at $300,000 over the same horizon.
ETF Flows
Ethereum spot ETFs posted a $216 million net inflow, led by BlackRock’s ETHA at $149 million, according to SoSoValue data. Bitcoin spot ETFs recorded a $13.29 million net outflow, extending net outflows to four consecutive days, with BlackRock’s IBIT posting the largest single-day outflow at $19.23 million. HYPE and SOL spot ETFs also saw modest outflows.
Security Incidents
Cross-chain protocol Symbiosis disclosed a security incident affecting its BTC portal, though the team said ETH and stablecoin pool liquidity remain confirmed safe.
DeFi lender ether.fi lost approximately 15.45 ETH after an attacker exploited an access control vulnerability in its AtomicQueue contract, according to SlowMist. BSC project BeatXswap lost about $77,500 in a price manipulation attack using a flash loan against an unprotected Uniswap V3 price feed.
Whale Activity
A whale spent $85.42 million over four days to accumulate 1,075.6 BTC at an average cost of $79,412, including THORChain swap fees, according to Ember monitoring. Wintermute transferred 61,847 ETH worth approximately $160.3 million to Binance and Coinbase over three hours, which the community speculated may signal a large sell-off.
