Anthropic Launches Public Benefit Fund

Anthropic announced it will inject 5% of its shares into a newly created wholly-owned entity, the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, subject to shareholder approval, with the ability to add another 2% each time the company’s valuation grows 50% above a set baseline, up to roughly 20% total.

The fund is structured as an LLC rather than a charitable 501(c)(3), and its equity cannot be used for lobbying or political donations in any country; one stated focus is addressing AI’s labor market impact, building on a prior $200 million commitment. Elon Musk responded by suggesting Anthropic “distribute shares directly to the public” instead, later adding, “This is exactly what I’m going to do.”

OKXICE Faces Corporate Pushback

OKXICE, the tokenized stock platform jointly built by OKX and Intercontinental Exchange, disclosed that nine US-listed companies have opposed having their stocks traded on the platform, including Broadcom, Verizon, UnitedHealth, AppLovin, Applied Digital, Rocket Lab, CoreWeave, Applied Optoelectronics, and Cerebras Systems. No reasons were given for the opposition. Nasdaq separately said it would choose not to have its own stock tokenized under the framework.

Roger Ver Settles With DOJ

Early Bitcoin investor Roger Ver, known as “Bitcoin Jesus,” reached a deferred prosecution agreement with the Department of Justice resolving mail fraud and tax evasion charges. Under the deal, the indictment will be dismissed after one month if Ver complies with its terms, while the IRS may recover up to $49.9 million in taxes, penalties, and interest.

The DOJ had alleged Ver failed to pay at least $48 million in taxes after renouncing US citizenship in 2014; he was arrested in Spain in April 2024 and did not receive a presidential pardon despite public appeals to Trump.

Trump’s Approval Rating Hits New Low

A Washington Post/ABC News/Ipsos poll put Trump’s approval rating at 33%, down 8 points from a year earlier and the lowest of his current term, with 66% disapproving and 52% strongly disapproving. The poll found Democrats now hold higher voter trust than Republicans on economic governance for the first time in over a decade, with inflation and affordability cited as key factors ahead of the midterm elections.

CFTC Proposes Voluntary Federal Oversight Framework

The CFTC proposed a regulatory framework called Reg CM allowing crypto exchanges to opt into unified federal oversight rather than navigating fragmented state licensing requirements. It remains unclear whether the industry will adopt the voluntary mechanism.

Crypto.com’s North American Derivatives Exchange and prediction market operator Novig sued Missouri officials, seeking to block the state from enforcing its sports betting law against their federally regulated event contracts.

Whale and Trader Activity

A whale closed a $110 million, 1,360 BTC long position after it came within $184 of its $80,500 stop-loss during the early-morning dip, ultimately exiting at $80,949 for a $3.26 million loss before redeploying $45.8 million into US equity longs including Tesla, DRAM, and SOXL. A separate whale shorting 13,830 ETH was partially liquidated for $6.66 million as ETH rebounded to $2,409, with the remaining position sitting just $9 from its liquidation price.

Market Outlook Diverges

Bitwise Head of Research Ryan Rasmussen said continued institutional ETF and corporate buying could push Bitcoin above $100,000 by year-end, while LO:TECH’s Adam Morgan McCarthy expects a more likely 85,000–95,000 trading range given persistent inflation pressure and Fed policy uncertainty. Trader Killa said he remains long and won’t close his position until Bitcoin reaches $126,000, while flagging $79,800 as a key level to watch for further downside.

Security Incidents

Qubic disclosed that attackers exploited insufficient randomness in wallet seed generation to drain 1,404 wallets of roughly 2.94 trillion QU, clarifying the flaw lay in seed generation rather than the core protocol. Cysic’s cross-chain bridge was exploited for 10 million illegally minted CYS tokens on BNB Chain after attackers gained unauthorized database access; the team suspended the bridge and blacklisted the receiving address.
