Binance Investigation

Binance’s preliminary investigation report said the October 29 attack, which involved about $6.34 billion in assets, began with a fake recruitment approach to a software engineer in September. The engineer downloaded a code repository for a supposed “homework” task, and a zero-day trojan inside it bypassed endpoint protection.

The attackers then used tampered Homebrew packages and internal AI tools to compromise more employee devices and reach the wallet signing service. From there, they used EIP-7702 to move assets out of hot wallets. Binance said about $2.85 billion has been frozen or blocked and that 98% of affected assets had been replenished as of October 31.

Binance co-founder Yi He said the exchange has blocked 57 suspected North Korea-linked cyberattacks this year. Lookonchain said the attacker is now converting SOL into BTC through THORChain.
