- Bitcoin must clear $79,868 and $82,300 before a $90,000 target becomes credible.
- CPI at 3.4% and PPI at 5.4% reinforce expectations for a 25-basis-point Fed hike.
- A break below $76,072 would invalidate the recovery structure and expose deeper losses.
Bitcoin traded near $77,600 after pulling back from another attempt to approach the $79,868 liquidity area ahead of Wednesday’s Federal Reserve decision. Meanwhile, the FOMC is set to conclude its September 15-16 meeting on Wednesday, placing monetary policy firmly at the center of Bitcoin’s near-term outlook.
The Fed will release its policy statement at 2:00 p.m. ET, followed by Chair Kevin Warsh’s press conference at 2:30 p.m. ET. As a result, Wednesday represents the key event window for traders assessing whether fresh volatility can push Bitcoin beyond its current range.
FOMC Puts Bitcoin’s $82,300 Breakout Path to $90K in Focus
BTC was near $77,558 on the one-hour chart, close to the 0.62 retracement zone and below the $79,868 liquidity ceiling. Holding that area keeps $78,000 and $79,868 within reach. However, reclaiming $80,000 would only mark the first breakout step.

Bitcoin would still need to clear its earlier swing-high region near $82,000 to $82,300 before a move toward $90,000 becomes technically credible. From approximately $82,300, Bitcoin would need another 9% advance to reach $90,000.
From the current level near $77,600, however, the required gain is about 16%. Therefore, $90,000 remains a continuation target rather than an immediate FOMC reaction level. Any move higher would first require acceptance above $90,000.
That sequence keeps the setup straightforward: first reclaim the liquidity ceiling, then establish support above $80,000, and finally break the prior swing-high zone. That broader setup follows Bitcoin’s recovery from late-August lows near $60,000, while options traders have increased positioning for prices above $80,000.
CPI and PPI Raise Stakes for Fed Decision and BTC Support
Against that technical backdrop, August inflation data strengthened expectations for a 25-basis-point rate increase and increased the importance of Warsh’s guidance. Headline CPI rose 0.4% monthly and 3.4% annually, while core CPI increased 0.3% monthly and 2.4% annually.

At the same time, final-demand PPI climbed 0.4% in August and 5.4% annually, reinforcing expectations that the Fed will maintain tighter policy. Consequently, a Reuters poll found 85% of economists expect rates to rise to 3.75%-4.00%, while futures priced in roughly a 90% probability of tightening.
For BTC, a less hawkish message could ease pressure from yields and the dollar. Further tightening signals could weigh on risk assets. The chart places initial support near $76,800, followed by the critical $76,072 level.
A sustained break below $76,072 would invalidate the recovery structure. However, if Bitcoin holds above that support zone, another test of the $79,868 liquidity area would remain possible. From there, Wednesday’s FOMC could provide the volatility needed for a larger move, but Bitcoin must clear $79,868, $80,000, and $82,300 before $90,000 becomes a realistic technical target.
