  • Bitcoin vs XRP show different September records, so Bitcoin’s seasonal weakness may not apply equally to XRP.
  • Bitcoin gained about 25% in August but now faces resistance between $80,000 and $82,000.
  • XRP has had 7 positive Septembers, albeit a few of the most positive Septembers were large gains.

Bitcoin vs XRP started the month of September with varying seasonal records and different degrees of macro exposure. Bitcoin has seen a price increase of about 25% in August and then pulled back to $78,000 from $81,000.

September has produced Bitcoin’s weakest average monthly return since 2014, at about negative 2.2%. Still, Bitcoin recorded gains during September in 2023, 2024, and 2025. Historical returns therefore show a tendency, not a fixed outcome.

XRP presents a less negative record. Monthly data show seven positive and six negative Septembers, with an average gain near 13.8%. Large rallies in 2013, 2016, and 2018 lift that average sharply.

Bitcoin vs XRP Face Different September Risks

Bitcoin enters the month near $77,700, below resistance between $80,000 and $82,000. Support sits around $77,300, followed by the stronger $74,000–$75,000 region.

Macro conditions could shape the next move. The Federal Reserve meets on September 15–16 after Chair Kevin Warsh warned that inflation stayed above target.

The 10-year Treasury yield recently reached 4.82%, while the dollar held near a two-week high. Higher yields and a firmer dollar can reduce demand for volatile assets.

Institutional flows also turned uneven. Bitcoin ETFs lost $201.9 million on August 28. Another $236.5 million left the funds on September 1.

XRP Builds Around Different Market Drivers

XRP traded near $1.35 after gaining about 30% during August. Immediate support lies between $1.30 and $1.35, while resistance sits between $1.50 and $1.60.

Futures data show changing participation. Total XRP futures exposure fell 16% from August 17 to August 31. CME exposure rose about 36% to 387 million XRP during that period.

Network activity offers another measure. XRP Ledger successful payments exceeded 2.6 million on August 5, reaching their highest level in four months.

RLUSD growth could deepen settlement liquidity, although it does not guarantee XRP demand. Ripple reported $1.87 billion circulating on August 20. CoinGecko placed its market value near $2.40 billion on September 2.

Broader liquidity still favors Bitcoin. Its market share stood near 60.1%, leaving altcoins more dependent on capital rotating away from BTC.

Bullish and Base Cases Stay Separate

Meanwhile, the bullish Bitcoin case requires support above $77,300 and a close beyond $82,000. That move could reopen the $88,000–$90,000 region.

The bullish XRP case requires continued defense of $1.30–$1.35. A recovery through $1.60 could support another test of the August high near $1.70.

Under the base case, Bitcoin could trade between $74,000 and $82,000 through the Fed meeting. Mixed ETF flows would keep direction limited.

XRP could range between $1.30 and $1.60 while traders assess futures positioning, XRPL activity, and RLUSD growth. These drivers may create moves independent of Bitcoin’s seasonality.

Risk-Off Conditions Leave XRP More Exposed

Even so, the bearish Bitcoin case starts with a break below $74,000. That would expose $73,500, while heavier selling could bring $70,000 into view.

For XRP, a close below $1.30 could open at $1.27 and then $1.20. Weak altcoin liquidity could widen the decline if Bitcoin dominance rises further.

XRP might experience greater percentage movements in a comprehensive risk-off mood. There’s also more liquidity, more demand for Bitcoin ETFs, and more institutional ownership of Bitcoin.

This is not a shield against Bitcoin’s losses. It implies that XRP is more negatively affected by increases in yields than the dollar, as well as by the decreasing trend of investors moving away from cryptocurrencies.
