- China’s CSI 300 logged 10 weekly losses, raising concerns over Bitcoin liquidity.
- ETF flows and premiums track demand but cannot alone identify Chinese BTC selling.
- Mid-October readings put Bitcoin’s key support levels at $80,340 and $75,696.
China’s benchmark CSI 300 has recorded 10 consecutive weeks of losses, raising concern that investors facing stock market setbacks could sell profitable Bitcoin holdings to raise cash. The possible connection centers on liquidity, additional BTC selling could deepen a downturn if demand weakens and investors become less willing to hold risk assets.
Bitcoin traded near $82,500 earlier Monday as stronger Chinese economic data supported global risk appetite. China’s reported 4.5% third-quarter GDP growth provided a counterpoint to the prolonged stock market slide.
How China’s Stock Losses Could Pressure Bitcoin
If liquidity pressure spreads, investors holding stocks and BTC could sell cryptocurrency positions to meet cash needs elsewhere. The pressure could increase if falling equities coincide with wider portfolio reductions or margin calls.
Bitcoin’s continuous trading creates an accessible market for raising cash. If sell orders reach smaller order books, price declines could trigger leveraged liquidations, adding another layer of selling.
Fund Flows and Liquidity Offer Warning Signals
U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF flows, the Coinbase Premium Index and Asian stablecoin premiums give separate reference points for assessing demand. ETF outflows can show withdrawals from those funds.
The Coinbase premium compares prices across markets, while stablecoin premiums can reflect demand for digital dollars. None independently identifies Chinese investors selling BTC to offset stock losses.
Concurrent equity losses, sustained crypto fund outflows and reduced spot liquidity would be consistent with broader selling pressure across risk assets. Spot market depth and leveraged liquidations offer another check.
A decline in available bids would leave prices open to selling, while rising liquidations could amplify an initial move. U.S. inflation releases and Federal Reserve expectations also remain relevant, alongside technology shares, when assessing whether market pressure is becoming global rather than remaining concentrated in China.
Bitcoin Support Levels Define the Downside Test
Mid-October technical readings placed the 50-day exponential moving average at $80,340 and the 200-day average at $75,696. Both averages change as new price data enter their calculations.
A daily close below $80,340 would weaken the recovery setup, with $75,696 a deeper trend reference. Such a break would signal price weakness without identifying its cause.
