Bitget has raised its confirmed losses from a September 24 security incident to $387.5 million. The crypto exchange initially estimated the affected assets at $351.6 million. However, additional tracing identified transfers involving Zcash and TRON. Bitget said the revised figure does not indicate any new theft.
Investigation Expands as Withdrawals Remain Suspended
Bitget CEO Gracy Chen said the exchange contained the incident and blocked further unauthorized transfers. Additionally, security teams identified the attack path and the methods used to bypass existing controls.
Mandiant and SlowMist now assist Bitget with the investigation and forensic analysis. Meanwhile, technical teams have fixed the underlying vulnerability and continue security checks.
The incident affected XRP, ETH, USDT, ZEC, USDC, USDT0, XAUt, BNB, AVAX and TRX. Consequently, Bitget continues tracing transactions across Ethereum, EVM networks, XRP Ledger, Zcash and TRON. Bitget plans to announce its withdrawal resumption strategy by 4:00 AM UTC on September 26.
Exchange Launches Recovery Bounty
Moreover, Bitget has launched a recovery bounty to encourage further fund tracing. The program offers eligible contributors 5% of funds they directly help freeze or recover.
Besides, Bitget said industry partners have already frozen some affected assets. The exchange will also use Bybit’s LazarusBounty initiative to support recovery efforts.
However, legal actions and law-enforcement interventions will not qualify for bounty payments. Bitget said ongoing transaction analysis could further change the confirmed figures.
