A Republican-aligned political committee linked to the crypto industry has spent $46.67 million targeting former Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown and supporting Republican Jon Husted. The expenditure exceeds Fairshake’s original $30 million commitment by 55.6%, highlighting the growing role of crypto-backed political funding in congressional elections.
Crypto Groups Expand Ohio Election Spending
Defend American Jobs disclosed the spending in an October 15 Federal Election Commission filing. Its expenditures include advertising, media production, and campaigns supporting Husted.
Additionally, Digital Freedom Fund, backed by Gemini co-founders Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, reported $5.94 million in cumulative Ohio spending. Together, the committees have spent approximately $52.61 million in the Senate contest.
The Winklevoss-backed fund also disclosed nearly $2.97 million in direct-mail expenses. These purchases included materials supporting Husted and opposing Brown.
Fairshake Targets Broader Congressional Races
Besides Ohio, Defend American Jobs reported $6.72 million opposing Nebraska independent Senate candidate Dan Osborn. The committee’s spending reflects the crypto industry’s broader efforts to influence congressional representation.
Moreover, Fairshake announced a separate $6 million plan targeting six House incumbents on October 5. The committee supports candidates who backed the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act.
However, the legislation faces uncertainty after a September Senate procedural vote failed to secure the 60 votes required. Consequently, crypto-backed groups continue investing heavily in elections that could shape future digital-asset regulation.
