Kamino plans to allow higher borrowing limits for certain cross-chain assets secured by Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP). The Solana-based lending platform says the decision follows a security review as it expands support for tokenized assets aimed at institutional investors.

The change will also affect loan-to-value (LTV) ratios, which determine how much users can borrow against their collateral. Higher ratios could let eligible borrowers access larger loans without adding more assets.

Kamino Reviews Cross-Chain Risks

Before approving collateral, Kamino examines smart contract vulnerabilities, pricing risks and whether an asset has enough backing. It also considers the reliability of price feeds and the security arrangements used to move assets between blockchains.

These checks are important because a problem on one network can affect tokens accepted as collateral on another. A token’s presence on a supported blockchain does not, by itself, guarantee that its cross-chain setup is secure.

Chainlink CCIP uses 16 independent node operators that have undergone security reviews to verify transactions between blockchains. CCIP 2.0 also allows issuers to add verifiers and set rules for how transactions are approved.

Kamino plans to strengthen real-time monitoring so it can pause lending markets if supply or pricing problems emerge. Assets with customized verification systems could face tighter borrowing limits, further reviews or rejection.

The changes come as DeFi platforms look to support more institutional tokenized assets while managing the risks of moving value between blockchains.
