Payward has bought AAVE tokens in transactions that also involved clients, adding the cryptocurrency to its investment holdings. Kraken’s parent company disclosed the purchases on November 5, although it did not provide details about the amount spent or the number of tokens involved.

The investment was made through Digital Asset Special Investments I, LP, a fund affiliated with Payward. The company said it may buy more tokens as onchain lending activity grows.

Payward Targets Aave Governance and Lending

AAVE holders can vote on protocol changes and decisions involving the Aave DAO treasury. However, Payward has not disclosed whether it or participating clients intend to take part in governance.

Aave founder Stani Kulechov confirmed the purchase on X, linking it to the token’s role under the AAVE Will Win Framework.

Payward executive Gurpreet Oberoi said the investment reflects the growing role of blockchain-based lending in financial markets.

“Onchain lending is quickly becoming an important part of the financial system, and Aave has established itself as one of the foundational protocols powering that shift,” Oberoi said.

Aave Investment Follows Earlier Discussions

The investment follows discussions in June, which Kulechov later clarified concerned specific token allocations rather than the protocol itself.

As of November 5, Aave reported approximately $33 billion in net deposits and $12 billion in active loans.
