President Donald Trump has proposed replacing the term artificial intelligence with “super intelligence” in U.S. government documents. He made the proposal Tuesday during his address to the United Nations General Assembly.

Trump argued that the word “artificial” incorrectly suggests that the technology produces fake or lesser intelligence. He presented the new term as a more accurate description of rapidly advancing computer systems.

Trump Pushes New AI Terminology

The proposal comes as Washington debates how aggressively the government should regulate artificial intelligence. Trump has repeatedly emphasized reducing regulatory barriers while strengthening America’s position against China.

Besides changing terminology, his administration plans to make artificial intelligence a major national priority. The technology continues to shape debates around national security, economic competition, and technological development.

Moreover, Trump’s comments arrive as concerns about advanced AI continue to grow. Researchers and technology leaders have warned about potential risks from increasingly capable systems.

AI Debate Gains Global Attention

Consequently, artificial intelligence will remain a key issue during Trump’s meetings with international leaders this week. Chinese President Xi Jinping also plans to visit Washington for talks with Trump.

Significantly, experts already use “superintelligence” to describe systems that surpass human intellectual abilities. Therefore, Trump’s proposed terminology differs from the established technical meaning.
