- BNB Chain’s New L1 will operate alongside BSC, using BNB without a separate token.
- New L1 targets 200ms blocks and 20ms pre-confirmations, with finality taking longer.
- BNB Chain plans a public testnet for late 2026, followed by mainnet in early 2027.
BNB Chain is developing a second Layer 1 blockchain that will operate alongside BNB Smart Chain (BSC), extending its infrastructure for faster trading and payment applications without introducing another native token.
The proposal drew a response from Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ); he wrote, “Multiple chains, one coins.” Technical documents updated October 22 describe a network targeting 200-millisecond blocks and roughly 20-millisecond transaction pre-confirmations, with an early 2027 mainnet launch planned.
BNB Remains Central to the Two-Chain Structure
Unlike a migration from BNB Smart Chain, the proposed network, provisionally named New L1, will run in parallel with the existing blockchain. BSC will continue hosting its decentralized finance applications, while New L1 will serve time-sensitive activities, including on-chain order books, high-frequency trading, and real-time payments.
The documentation also identifies private finance as a potential use for the network. A native bridge, still under development, is intended to move BNB between the networks. The token will remain the gas and staking asset on New L1, eliminating the need for a separate native coin.
Under the proposed staking arrangement, users who stake BNB through StakeHub receive non-transferable govBNB at a one-to-one ratio. Delegated govBNB determines voting weight in network governance.

Faster Ordering Does Not Mean Instant Settlement
New L1’s proposed consensus design enhances Parlia with BLS voting, aiming for transaction-order finality in under 1 second. However, its 20-millisecond pre-confirmations are provisional and may be revoked before transactions finalize. Applications requiring irreversible settlement must therefore wait for execution finality.
The architecture separates transaction ordering from execution, allowing validators to agree on blocks without completing every transaction first. A Multi-Lane mechanism also allocates processing capacity to various transaction types, including payments and trading orders.
Developers can continue using Solidity, although some Ethereum RPC methods and transaction formats will be unsupported. Other proposed features include sponsored fees, batched transactions through native account abstraction, and an optional shielded pool for confidential transfers.
Testing Continues Ahead of 2027 Launch
BNB Chain says an internal development network with multiple validators is already operating. A public testnet is scheduled for late 2026, followed by the mainnet in early 2027. The project’s final name has not been announced.
The proposal builds on a July roadmap outlining more than 100,000 transactions per second and specific execution lanes.
