  • DB Securities and Optimism partner to develop Jeju-focused tokenized securities and real-world asset projects.
  • The initiative will tokenize Jeju smart farms, livestock assets, and K-content intellectual property.
  • The two-year plan aims to expand South Korea’s STO ecosystem using Optimism’s blockchain infrastructure.

DB Securities has partnered with the Optimism Foundation to develop tokenized securities (STOs) and real-world asset (RWA) projects centered on South Korea’s Jeju region.

The South Korean brokerage announced on Tuesday that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Ethereum Layer-2 developer at the Optimism Foundation’s headquarters in New York.

The agreement will establish domestic and international STO and RWA business models by combining Optimism’s blockchain infrastructure with DB Securities’ institutional underwriting and financial product structuring capabilities.

Jeju Assets to be Tokenized

As part of the first phase of the partnership, the companies plan to build a platform that tokenizes both tangible and intangible assets originating from Jeju. The initiative will initially target smart farm and livestock assets, alongside K-content intellectual property (IP), converting them into tokenized securities and real-world assets.

DB Securities said the collaboration is intended to create a differentiated business model by leveraging Optimism’s Ethereum Layer-2 technology while utilizing the brokerage’s experience in underwriting and arranging financial products.

Optimism is an Ethereum scaling network that improves transaction speeds and reduces fees while maintaining Ethereum’s security. Its technology underpins Coinbase’s Layer-2 network, Base, and has also been adopted by South Korean crypto exchange Upbit through its parent company, Dunamu.

Two-year Rollout Aligned with Regulation

According to DB Securities, the partnership will be implemented gradually over the next two years, with both companies aligning development with evolving digital asset regulations in South Korea and overseas.

The brokerage said using Optimism’s existing blockchain infrastructure is expected to reduce the time and cost required to develop its own tokenization platform.

The agreement also forms part of DB Securities’ broader strategy to expand its digital asset business through collaborations with local governments. In Jeju, the company aims to source assets suitable for tokenization while strengthening its role as an underwriter and arranger in the emerging STO market.

Lee Joo-sik, head of DB Securities’ digital asset business team, said the collaboration with Optimism would improve the reliability and stability of South Korea’s STO and RWA ecosystem.

He added that combining Jeju’s regional assets with blockchain technology would help the company commercialize tokenized securities and strengthen its position in the domestic market.
