  • Deribit obtained a Dubai Broker-Dealer Licence, enabling it to upgrade its spot offering.
  • Coinbase says the new setup is meant to give Deribit clients notably deeper liquidity.
  • Dubai traders get access to Coinbase liquidity without leaving the Deribit ecosystem.

For Dubai’s crypto traders, Deribit’s VARA Broker-Dealer license is not just another regulatory approval. It could mean deeper liquidity, better spot execution, and easier access to Coinbase-backed trading infrastructure inside a regulated Dubai framework.

The company already holds a VARA (Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority) license for serving institutional and qualified investors. Now, under the new arrangement, spot trades made through Deribit will be sent to Coinbase Exchange to be filled, giving the exchange access to deeper liquidity and a much wider selection of assets.

Why This Matters for Dubai Users

Coinbase says the new setup is meant to give Deribit clients “significantly deeper liquidity,” and the upgraded spot platform will eventually open up hundreds more assets to trade.

The most immediate benefit for Dubai users is potentially better BTC and ETH trade execution, or rather, liquidity. A deeper order book means more buyers and sellers at different prices, which can help close the gap between the price you see and the price you actually get. That’s particularly important for big BTC and ETH trades, where low liquidity can lead to slippage.

Additionally, eligible Dubai-based traders get access to Coinbase liquidity without necessarily leaving the Deribit ecosystem. That could make Deribit a more convenient option for traders who want to trade spot BTC and ETH alongside derivatives, without having to spread their activity across different platforms. One more notable effect of this development is that spot and derivatives get more closely linked, which may be especially useful for pro traders.

Deribit has always been known for crypto derivatives, and its Dubai license allows it to offer those services for eligible Dubai-based traders and institutional users. The new spot setup could make it easier for traders to use spot assets alongside their derivatives strategies in one place.

Dubai’s Regulatory Growth

In the long run, the regulatory side of things might matter more than the Coinbase connection.

Under VARA, any virtual-asset business doing regulated activities in Dubai needs the right license, and broker-dealer and exchange services are both covered. Deribit has already been part of that system since it got its VASP (Virtual Asset Service Provider) license in Dubai back in 2024.

As such, the partnership with Coinbase shows that regulation and top-tier infrastructure are moving forward together in Dubai.

With this, the city is steadily becoming a place where regulated crypto exchanges, traditional financial systems, and institutional liquidity providers all coexist and operate in a single market.
