- Fed held rates at 3.75%–4.00%, while two policymakers preferred a quarter-point hike.
- Warsh cited stronger economic growth and broadening capital investment as signs of resilience.
- Bitcoin risks a drop toward $78,000-$76,000 if it breaks below $80,000 support.
Bitcoin faced renewed downside risks after Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh signaled caution about interest-rate cuts, even as policymakers left rates unchanged on October 28. The Federal Open Market Committee kept its target range at 3.75%–4.00%, but described economic activity as strong and inflation as elevated. The 10–2 vote included two dissenters, Lisa Cook and Beth Hammack, who preferred a quarter-point rate increase.
Since the hold was expected, the decision brought little immediate direction. Trader ian Cooper said stocks, gold and Bitcoin were broadly unchanged. Attention shifted from the decision to Warsh’s comments on inflation, growth and the path ahead.
Warsh’s Message Leaves Rate Cuts Uncertain
Warsh said economic growth had strengthened, with first-half GDP growth revised up from 1.8% to 2.4%, while third-quarter activity appeared faster still. He described employment conditions as positive and said capital investment was broadening beyond a small group of sectors. These conditions offer policymakers less reason to provide immediate economic support through rate cuts.
Inflation remains a key concern. The Fed repeated that price increases are above its 2% goal, while Warsh emphasized the central bank’s responsibility to restore price stability. He also said he does not favor routine forward guidance outside a crisis, a position consistent with his earlier remarks on monetary policy communication.
Without a clear signal about future cuts, markets must react to incoming inflation, employment, and growth reports, leaving speculative assets vulnerable to shifts in rate expectations.
Fewer Rate-Setting Meetings Add to Uncertainty
Warsh said the Fed will adjust how it uses its eight annual meetings. One meeting in 2027 will focus on broad monetary-policy strategy, while two will serve that purpose in 2028. These sessions are not expected to include rate decisions or policy statements. The Fed will still meet eight times a year, but the change fits Warsh’s preference for less forward guidance.
The two votes for a hike reinforce the hawkish tone. They don’t guarantee a December hike, but they show that some officials believe inflation risks justify tighter policy. December 10 is the next scheduled FOMC statement, leaving upcoming economic data central to expectations.

Bitcoin Chart Shows Resistance Above $84,000
The TradingView four-hour BTC/USD chart shows Bitcoin at $81,216.70, down 0.39%. Despite recovering from lows near $60,000, BTC has formed lower highs after stalling below $86,000-$88,000 in late summer, suggesting weakening momentum rather than a confirmed breakout.

The liquidity heatmap shows overhead clusters around $84,000 to $90,000, with a volume area near $82,000-$84,000. Bitcoin would need to reclaim $84,000 and then push through $86,000-$88,000 to weaken the bearish setup. Below price, the green liquidity area around $76,000-$80,000 marks potential support.
A break below $80,000 could expose $78,000 and then $76,000, although liquidity zones are not guaranteed targets. Lower momentum readings are near the indicator’s upper band, suggesting recent momentum may be stretched, but they don’t confirm a reversal on their own.
What Bitcoin’s Outlook Means for Altcoins
Bitcoin’s ability to hold above $80,000 could influence broader crypto market sentiment. A break below this level may increase selling pressure across altcoins, while a recovery toward $84,000 could help stabilize sentiment.
The Fed’s decision to hold rates steady offered little clarity on the timing of future cuts, while Warsh’s comments kept inflation and economic growth in focus. Bitcoin’s $80,000 support and $84,000-$88,000 resistance are key levels, with a breakdown exposing $78,000-$76,000. Incoming economic data and changes in rate expectations will remain important drivers of market direction.
