  • Grok’s Coinbase integration enables users to trade assets directly within chat.
  • Crypto ranks as the most-muted topic on X amid declining content quality concerns.
  • Over-reliance on AI could shift risk from emotion-driven to passive decision-making.

X already allows users to hide crypto content from their feed for 24 hours through its topic snooze feature, introduced earlier this year. Now, as its AI chatbot Grok gains the ability to execute crypto trades on behalf of users, the platform is moving in a contrasting direction. Together, these developments point to a shift in how users may interact with crypto, seeing less of it while increasingly letting AI act on it.

Crypto Is Now X’s Most Muted Topic

X head of product Nikita Bier said crypto has become the single most-muted topic on the platform, ranking ahead of politics, the Iran conflict, sports, business, and finance. That finding follows X’s April 22 launch of a snooze feature, which lets Premium users hide specific topics from their For You feed for a full day. Bier attributed part of the fatigue to declining content quality, describing the snooze tool as a way to “crank up or turn down the slop.”

Grok Can Now Trade Directly Through Coinbase

xAI announced that Grok users can connect a native Coinbase integration directly inside the chat interface, allowing them to check balances, analyze holdings, and place or cancel trades for any listed asset without opening a separate app.

Unlike earlier read-only, third-party connections, this integration is built and maintained jointly by xAI and Coinbase, giving Grok actual write access to execute trades rather than just view portfolio data.

A similar rollout is already live on the trading platform Liquid, where a connector called Co-Invest gives Grok read and write access to a user’s account.

Safety Layer, and Its Limits

While Grok now has the ability to execute trades, the level of autonomy remains unclear. In earlier integrations, such as MoonPay’s PayBox system, transactions required explicit user approval before funds could move. If a similar confirmation layer exists within the Coinbase integration, it would limit fully autonomous execution and keep users in control of final trade decisions.

The Bigger Risk: Over-Trust

The real concern isn’t necessarily that Grok might make a bad call. It’s what happens once someone stops watching the market entirely and defers to an AI’s judgment by default. A trader who snoozes crypto content for convenience may also stop questioning trades an AI proposes, shifting risk away from emotional, FOMO-driven decisions and toward a different kind of danger.

What to Check Before Trusting an AI With Your Portfolio

Before connecting any exchange to an AI assistant, it’s worth confirming exactly what permissions you’re granting, whether trades require manual confirmation or can execute automatically, what assets the integration actually supports well versus poorly (thin-liquidity tokens can behave unpredictably), and how to quickly revoke access if something goes wrong.
