- CERT-In warns of AI-assisted attacks targeting crypto exchanges and financial platforms.
- Strong passwords, 2FA, hardware wallets, and API security can help protect crypto assets.
- Indian users should watch for phishing scams and report cyber fraud through 1930.
India’s crypto market is facing another security concern as hackers are increasingly using AI tools to enhance their hacking methods. With the help of artificial intelligence, hackers are launching more advanced attacks against crypto exchanges and platforms.
Recently, CERT-In warned against an active campaign targeting financial platforms, including digital asset platforms. As these threats are harder to detect, users need to be more careful about how they protect their accounts and digital assets. This guide helps you understand some security checks every Indian crypto user should follow.
CERT-In Warns of AI-Powered Attacks on Crypto Exchanges
According to the latest reports, Indian cybersecurity agency CERT-In warned about an active cyberattack campaign targeting financial institutions. These platforms include crypto exchanges as well. The agency identified the campaign as CRAFTY FALCON, which uses AI tools to make cyberattacks faster and more effective.
The report revealed that the hackers are using tools like ARTEX, PentAGI, Cairn, and CyberStrikeAI. These tools help them identify any vulnerability in the system and carry out attacks. Thus, attackers could create customised scripts, exploit security gaps, and adjust their methods based on the target’s response.
Further, CERT-In reported cases involving compromised infrastructure, exposed testing environments, and payment APIs. As per the report, some crypto exchanges and virtual digital asset service providers have faced wallet key theft and unauthorized fund transfers. According to the agency, the campaign remains active.
How To Strengthen Your Crypto Exchange Account Security?
To strengthen your crypto exchange account security, the first thing to do is to check your login security. Use a strong and unique password for each platform. It is not advisable to use the same password for your email, social media, and crypto accounts.
After that, it is necessary to enable two-factor authentication (2FA), which would add an additional level of security. An Authenticator app or security keys are better than SMS codes. This measure will ensure that your accounts remain safe even in case your password becomes known.
The other major thing that must be done is verifying the devices signed into the exchange account. If there are any unrecognized devices or ongoing sessions, they should be terminated. It is recommended to enable such features as passkeys or biometrics.
How to Protect Your Crypto Wallets and Withdrawals?
It is not enough to secure your exchange account to make your funds safe. Investors must also pay attention to securing the storage and withdrawal of funds. When you plan on holding the coins for a long time, it is recommended that you do not keep them all at an exchange but use a hardware wallet to store them for long-term use.
If the exchange you use has allowlisting, then it would be wise for you to activate this option on your withdrawal address. Withdrawals from this address will happen only if you authorize it in advance.
How to Identify and Avoid AI-Powered Crypto Scams
Nowadays, AI tools are largely allowing hackers to create more convincing emails, messages, and fake websites. This may trick people into believing them to be official communications from crypto exchanges, wallet providers, or customer support teams.
Thus, Indian crypto users need to be careful while receiving these messages. Do not open suspicious links received through emails, Telegram, or social media. Always visit the exchange’s official website or app to check important account notifications.
If you get messages asking you to verify your account, reset your password, or share wallet details urgently, be careful. Never share your OTP, password, private keys, or recovery phrase with anyone. Always keep in mind that genuine exchange support teams will not ask you to share this sensitive data.

In case you notice suspicious activity in your crypto account, you should act immediately. Contact the exchange via its official website or app and request an account freeze or temporary withdrawal suspension.
When you see any unauthorized access to your crypto account, change your passwords. Make quick moves to log out of all active sessions. Also, revoke unknown API keys and remove unfamiliar devices. If your wallet is affected, secure the remaining funds and move them to a safe wallet.
In addition, Indian crypto users can also report suspected cyber fraud via the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal or call the 1930 cybercrime helpline as soon as possible. Keep transaction IDs, wallet addresses, screenshots, and other relevant evidence to support the complaint.
