  • Nifty 50 closed at 25,030.35 INR, up 2.01% Friday and 8.6% over the week amid a tech rout.
  • South Korea’s Kospi and Japan’s Nikkei each fell 6%, while Taiwan lost 4.5% Friday.
  • ₹15,000 crore in foreign buying lifted Indian stocks, while limited AI exposure may have helped.

Indian stocks defied Friday’s technology-led Asian sell-off as the Nifty 50 climbed toward 24,900 INR, extending a breakout to a three-month high. Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan recorded steep intraday losses as investors cut exposure to artificial intelligence-linked companies.

The divergence followed renewed foreign buying in India and a sharp retreat in crude prices earlier in the week. However, India’s relatively limited AI-hardware exposure cannot alone explain the rally.

Nifty 50 Breakout Contrasts With Asian Market Losses

The Nifty traded at 24,857.60 INR by 2:37 p.m. IST on November 6, gaining 1.31%, while the Sensex rose 1.55% to 80,540.11 INR. The gains followed Thursday’s 2.4% advance, putting India’s benchmark on course for its strongest weekly performance since January 2021.

A three-hour Nifty chart shared by Bull Theory showed consecutive green candles as the index climbed beyond its previous trading range. Pullbacks remained shallow, allowing the index to break above 24,800 INR and approach 24,900 INR. Thursday’s rally had already pushed the Nifty above its 200-day moving average for the first time since February 26.

The strength contrasted sharply with losses across major Asian markets. Analyst Bull Theory claimed Indian equities had gained 10% over two weeks, while Taiwan fell 13.8%, South Korea dropped 8.8%, and Japan declined 8.4%.

Friday’s intraday sell-off showed a similar divergence. South Korea’s Kospi plunged as much as 8.8%, triggering a trading halt, while Japan’s Nikkei lost nearly 7%. Similarly, Taiwan’s benchmark fell more than 8% during the regional rout.

Foreign Inflows and Oil Retreat Bolster Indian Shares

Meanwhile, foreign investors purchased a net ₹14,796 crore, approximately $1.6 billion, of Indian equities on November 5, Reuters reported. That was the largest daily foreign inflow in nearly six years, following record foreign selling earlier in 2026.

Oil prices provided further support, as Brent crude traded around $94–$97 on Thursday, below $100 after touching nearly $113 on October 30. Although prices recovered somewhat on Friday, the earlier retreat eased concerns about India’s energy import bill and inflation.

Still, the rally was uneven. Banking and financial heavyweights led gains, while smaller companies lagged. That distinction matters as a rising headline index does not establish broad market strength.

Does India’s Lower AI Exposure Explain the Market Divergence?

Bull Theory described India as an “anti-AI trade,” arguing that its limited direct exposure helped it escape losses in chip-heavy markets. That, however, remains an interpretation rather than a demonstrated causal relationship.

Analysts pointed to foreign inflows, improving earnings, relatively modest valuations, and falling oil prices as supporting factors. Portfolio rotation away from AI shares played a role in the broader narrative, particularly as the Nasdaq plunged 5.5% on Thursday amid concerns over AI investment returns and potential regulatory restrictions.

Meanwhile, the Nifty 50’s advance above 24,800 INR brought the psychological 25,000 INR level into focus. However, support at 24,300–24,200 INR remains important if profit-taking emerges. The daily RSI also reached 74.69 on November 5, signaling strong momentum alongside growing consolidation risk.
