Is SBF BALD? FTX Connection Emerges in Rug Pull Investigation
  • The crypto community on Twitter has raised concerns about the identity of the BALD memecoin deployer.
  • Analysis by on-chain sleuths suggested that the deployer may be Sam Bankman-Fried or an FTX insider.
  • The deployer’s previous transactions showed signs of affiliation with FTX and Alameda Research.

Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) may be the deployer of the controversial meme token BALD, according to analysis by on-chain sleuths on Twitter. The previous transactions made by the wallet that added liquidity to the meme token indicated an affiliation with FTX and its sister firm Alameda Research, both founded by Bankman-Fried.

In an interesting turn of events, one of the most hyped meme tokens on Coinbase’s layer-2 Base has become one of the most controversial tokens. After losing the majority of its liquidity and witnessing a price fall of more than 85%, the crypto community on Twitter has accused the deployer of rug-pulling.

BALD’s popularity surged after degen traders on Twitter shared gains of up to 100,000%. The prospect of exponential returns prompted others to invest in the meme token and pump its price, adding to the mania. However, it all came crashing down earlier today after the deployer pulled 11,139 wETH ($20.3 million) in liquidity on the BASE’s leading decentralized exchange LeetSwap.

Allegations of rug pulling led to investigations by on-chain sleuths in a bid to uncover the identity of the mysterious deployer. Analysis of older wallets associated with the deployer showed that it actively traded on dYdX, Oasis DEX, and Set Protocol back in 2019-20, which narrowed the pool of individuals.

The address also had significant interaction with FTX and Alameda Research, both founded by Sam Bankman-Fried. Additionally, this address actively participated in the early governance proposals for DEX SushiSwap. The sleuths came to the conclusion that the deployer could be SBF or former Alameda Research CEO Sam Trabucco.

A crypto influencer who goes by ‘hype’ on Twitter noted that the tweets by the BALD deployer had the bearing of Sam Bankman-Fried, given the similar sentence structure. Additionally, the deployer’s previous posts on dYdX also sounded like the disgraced FTX founder.
