Jack Dorsey has launched a new workplace collaboration platform called Buzz, adding another communication product to his portfolio. Developed by Block, Buzz is an open-source group chat app designed for teams where humans and AI agents work together in the same workspace.
The platform aims to compete with workplace tools such as Slack and GitHub by combining messaging, AI workflows, project management, and coding into a single application.
Buzz Puts AI Agents Alongside Human Teams
Unlike traditional workplace chat platforms that add AI as an assistant, Buzz treats AI agents as active participants inside team conversations.
Employees can chat with coworkers and AI agents in shared channels while managing projects, code repositories, pull requests, and automated workflows from the same interface. AI agents are designed to stay inside conversations, understand context, and assist across ongoing work instead of responding only when prompted.
Block describes Buzz as “a native workspace for human and agent teams.”
Jack Dorsey said the platform is model-agnostic, decentralized, self-sovereign, and open source, allowing organizations to use different AI models instead of being locked into a single provider.
Open Source and Built on Nostr
Buzz is built on the decentralized Nostr protocol, continuing Dorsey’s long-standing support for open and decentralized technologies.
Because the platform is open source, developers have full access to its codebase. Teams can customize their own Buzz deployments, build additional features, and self-host the software if they want greater control over security and data.
The free desktop application is already available for macOS, Windows, and Linux, while the project’s source code has been published on GitHub. Block says Buzz remains in its early stages and is still under active development.
Taking on Slack in the AI Era
Buzz enters a crowded workplace software market led by Slack and Microsoft Teams. While both platforms have introduced AI features, Buzz is built around AI agents from the beginning rather than adding them later.
The platform also combines communication, software development, and AI workflows into one workspace, reducing the need to switch between multiple applications.
The launch comes as more startups and enterprises adopt AI agents to automate tasks. Managing those agents across separate tools has become increasingly complex, creating an opportunity for platforms built specifically for AI-native collaboration.
