  • Joseph Chalom says the Ethereum Foundation’s role will be narrower henceforth.
  • ETHlabs is filling a crucial gap by attracting developer talent to the Ethereum network.
  • The developers will focus on developing applications to serve institutional participants.

Sharplink CEO Joseph Chalom says the Ethereum Foundation will play a narrower but really important role focused on CROPS in the Ethereum ecosystem. In a recent podcast, Chalom described the foundation as a principled organization that will keep the network and give it a competitive advantage.

A New Cycle Begins for Ethereum

However, Chalom stated that there is an upcoming institutional adoption cycle, and what the major players need may slightly differ from the Ethereum Foundation’s mission. Hence, ETHlabs may be stepping in to fill a crucial gap caused by the exit of significant talent from the Ethereum Foundation.

According to Chalom, ETHlabs is preparing several announcements that disclose seasoned developers who have joined the community. He also noted that the lab will focus on what institutions want, such as scalability, privacy, and the ability to generate high-level transactions. He further described the incoming developers as deliverers who will bring to the fore what institutions are asking for.

ETHlabs is Focused on Institutional Needs

Chalom clarified that despite providing the initial financing, his group, comprising industry stewards, does not control ETHlabs. He noted that the goal of the stewards is to bring together a dense team of talents that will collect more Ethereum talent and have a roadmap with a couple of years of funding.

In the meantime, Chalom emphasized that ETHlabs focuses on delivering what institutions are looking for without compromising decentralization and the fundamental principles of the Ethereum network. He described a multi-noded structure, with developers working in independent cells, focusing on different aspects of the Ethereum network.

Preparing for the Future

Meanwhile, having acknowledged the mass exodus of developers from the Ethereum Foundation, Chalom noted the stewards’ desire to bring the best devs to ETHlabs. He stated that it would be in preparation for what is to come for the Ethereum network—a transaction volume never seen before.

Chalom said the incoming developers will be responsible for shipping the next versions and features that institutions are looking for. He emphasized that, despite being an initiator of ETHlabs alongside Joseph Lubin and Tom Lee, the group remains independent and decentralized without a central control unit.
