  • NEAR surged 12.59% to $5.216, targeting resistance at $5.267–$5.359.
  • Open interest climbed above $1.5 billion, signaling heightened derivatives market activity.
  • Spot outflows reached $1.59 million as overbought signals raised risks of a pullback.

NEAR Protocol has extended its recovery, gaining 12.59% over the past 24 hours as renewed buying interest lifts its price above $5.20. However, rising derivatives activity and persistent spot outflows suggest the rally faces important challenges.

NEAR traded around $5.216 on October 16, following a rebound from the $4.55-4.60 support zone. Its seven-day gain reached 10.82%, while daily trading volume climbed above $1.24 billion.

Bulls Target the $5.36 Resistance

NEAR’s four-hour chart shows improving momentum after the cryptocurrency recovered above its 20-, 50-, and 100-period exponential moving averages (EMAs). This development suggests buyers have regained short-term control following the recent decline.

However, the recovery now approaches resistance between $5.267 and $5.359. A decisive move above this zone could strengthen the bullish outlook and open a path toward $5.362, $5.650, and $6.018. These levels represent potential upside targets if buyers maintain sufficient momentum.

Additionally, the $5.40 region remains an important hurdle for the current rally. A sustained breakout could attract momentum traders and encourage further buying.

Nevertheless, technical indicators warn that the rally may need a pause. The Stochastic RSI readings stand at 80.78 and 87.64, placing the indicator in overbought territory. The faster line has also crossed below the slower line, suggesting that buying momentum could weaken.

On the downside, initial support sits between $5.095 and $5.109, where the 20- and 50-period EMAs converge. A break below this zone could expose $4.957 and $4.964. Further weakness may push NEAR toward $4.706, followed by stronger support between $4.301 and $4.453.

Open Interest Surge Signals Intensifying Market Activity

NEAR’s derivatives market has experienced a substantial increase in participation during October. Open interest climbed above $1.5 billion after spending several months fluctuating between $200 million and $500 million.

The metric briefly approached $1.9 billion before retreating to approximately $1.53 billion. Meanwhile, NEAR traded near $5.26 during the latest observation.

Negative Spot Flows Challenge the Bullish Outlook

NEAR’s spot market presents a less encouraging picture. Recent inflow and outflow data shows uneven trading activity, with several periods of substantial withdrawals.

Late May recorded inflows exceeding $20 million before heavy outflows emerged in June. Additionally, September and October brought sharper fluctuations, including withdrawals approaching $40 million.

On October 16, NEAR recorded a net outflow of approximately $1.59 million while trading around $5.215. This reading suggests that selling pressure persists despite the latest price recovery.

Technical Outlook for NEAR Protocol Price

Key levels remain well-defined as NEAR Protocol trades around $5.20:

Upside levels: $5.267-5.359 as immediate resistance. A breakout could open the path toward $5.650 and $6.018.

Downside levels: $5.109-5.095 as initial support, followed by $4.964-4.957 and $4.706. Stronger support lies between $4.453 and $4.301.

Resistance ceiling: $5.36 is the key breakout zone for strengthening short-term bullish momentum. The technical picture suggests NEAR is recovering above its major four-hour moving averages, although overbought Stochastic RSI readings warn of a potential pullback.

Will NEAR Protocol Go Up?

NEAR’s price prediction hinges on whether buyers can defend the $5.095 support zone and break above $5.36. If bullish momentum strengthens, the price could approach $5.65 and potentially $6.018.

However, elevated open interest near $1.53 billion and negative spot netflows of $1.59 million signal increased volatility and persistent selling pressure. A failure to hold $4.96 could expose NEAR to $4.706 and the broader $4.453-4.301 support region.

For now, NEAR remains at a pivotal level. A confirmed breakout and improving spot inflows could support further gains, while weakening demand may trigger another correction.
