  • Microsoft’s President said the initiative will advance responsible AI for humanity.
  • Crypto experts have previously raised privacy concerns about AI.

Just a few days after the CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman, launched the Worldcoin (WLD) token, tech giants Google and OpenAI are taking proactive measures to ensure the safety and accountability of AI models by establishing an industry regulatory body.

According to the report, the move was in response to mounting concerns over the rampant growth of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Anna Makanju, Vice President of Global Affairs at OpenAI, stated that it is an urgent endeavor, and the forum is well-prepared to make swift advancements in AI safety.

The coalition, known as the Frontier Model Forum, is also receiving support from AI startup Anthropic and Microsoft, with the shared objective of pooling their collective expertise to establish industry benchmarks.

In the coming months, the forum intends to establish an advisory board to assess priorities and aims to formulate a charter, governance system, and funding to lead the charge effectively. Moreover, the group is eager to collaborate with existing initiatives like Partnership on AI and MLCommons.

Microsoft President Brad Smith emphasized the significance of this initiative in bringing the tech sector together to advance AI. In his words:

This initiative is a vital step to bring the tech sector together in advancing AI responsibly and tackling the challenges so that it benefits all of humanity.

Notably, the news of the Frontier Model Forum’s formation will likely be welcomed by the crypto and blockchain community as experts have raised privacy concerns about AI. Some have expressed worries about the potential for AI to be used to manipulate markets or to create counterfeit cryptocurrencies. The Frontier Model Forum could help to address these concerns and ensure that AI is used safely and responsibly.
