Pi Network Sets June 2 Deadline for Mandatory Protocol 24.1 Upgrade

  • Pi Network ordered all mainnet node operators to upgrade to Protocol 24.1 by June 2.
  • If node operators don’t migrate on time, they could lose access to the mainnet completely.
  • The upgrade is focused on backend optimization and node infrastructure stability.

Pi Network is moving into another large infrastructure overhaul, requiring all mainnet node operators to upgrade to Protocol 24.1 by a hard deadline of June 2, 2026.

This upgrade is being positioned as an important step toward making Pi Network more scalable and ready for smart contracts.

If node operators don’t finish the migration on time, they could lose access to the mainnet completely. Like in past Pi updates, older nodes might not work with the new consensus rules and won’t be able to sync transactions correctly.

Pi Network is upgrading from Protocol 23 to 24.1 after developers said the Protocol 23 migration went smoothly across most key mainnet nodes. The protocol expanded Web3 functionality and was a major technical step for Pi Network, laying the groundwork for smart contracts and dApps.

Protocol 24.1 Features

The new Protocol 24.1 upgrade appears to be more focused on backend optimization and keeping the node infrastructure stable. According to Pi Hackathon, the update brings faster migration processing, updated Docker tools, better cloud sync, stronger node security, and improved readiness for decentralized node scaling.

Community updates and technical notes show the upgrade sequence goes: 19.1 to 19.6 to 19.9 to 20.2, then 21.2 to 22.1 to 23.0, and then 24.1 to 25.1 to 26.0.

One notable detail is that developers say the v24.1 migration is a lot faster than v23. Internal data migrations are often done in less than five minutes, unlike the much heavier Protocol 23 upgrade that included moving to Ubuntu 24 and PostgreSQL 16.

Despite the technical progress, Pi Network still faces skepticism across parts of the crypto market.

As for the token’s price, PI has been in decline for a while now, trading at around $0.1426. It’s a roughly 22% decline in the past 30 days and approximately 5% drop in the last 7 days.
