Poland’s Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General, Waldemar Zurek, has announced the detention of Artur K, a former Polish police officer, on the order of the Silesian Off-site Department of the PK.
Zurek said the charges against the suspect include participation in an organized crime group, helping misappropriate funds from users of the ZondaCrypto cryptocurrency exchange, and laundering funds derived from the crime. According to the Justice Minister, the arrest is also a step toward clarifying the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of Sylwester Suszek, ZondaCrypto’s founder.
ZondaCrypto’s Negative Circumstances
Suszek went missing in 2022 amid unclear circumstances after leaving a desperate voice message for his younger sister, suggesting he had been abducted. Efforts to find him have proven abortive, even after his successor’s disappearance four years later escalated concerns around one of Eastern Europe’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges.
Przemyslaw Kral, who replaced Suszek as ZondaCrypto’s chief executive, was last heard from on April 6, 2026. He released a video message on that day urging worried customers not to lose faith. He assured them that they would get their funds back, thanks to his acclaimed ZondaCrypto Bitcoin holdings, worth over $330 million. Karl told customers that accessing the funds could take time, since only the missing Suszek knew the digital codes for unlocking the online vault holding the funds.
Evidence Against Artur K
Officers from Poland’s Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime (CBZC) detained Artur K after searching his home and recovering documents directly tied to ZondaCrypto’s operations. His case is deeply intertwined with the complications surrounding ZondaCrypto, which Poland’s Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, has accused of having ties to Russian intelligence, organized crime, and right-wing politicians.
ZondaCrypto’s website went blank in April, leaving hundreds or thousands of users stranded and with no option to withdraw their funds or place trades. The platform’s native digital token, ZND, has lost more than 99.9% of its value, representing one of the unfortunate crypto stories in recent history.
