Samsung SDS is partnering with South Korean crypto company Dunamu to build stablecoin systems and AI-powered digital payment services.
The move is part of Samsung SDS’ plan to expand its digital finance business alongside its AI and cloud operations.
During its second-quarter earnings call, Samsung SDS said its investment in Dunamu is intended to help develop digital asset infrastructure for future growth rather than simply generate financial returns.
Strategic Investment Targets Stablecoins and Digital Assets
Samsung SDS CEO Lee Jun-hee said the investment in Dunamu will combine Dunamu’s blockchain expertise with Samsung SDS’ strengths in AI, cloud computing, IT services, and cybersecurity.
The two companies are exploring projects involving stablecoin systems, digital asset-based financial services, and AI-powered payment solutions. They will continue refining their partnership plans and developing related business models.
Cloud Business Boosts Second-Quarter Growth
Samsung SDS also reported stronger second-quarter results as its revenue rose 5.9% year over year to 3.72 trillion won. Operating profit rose 0.7% to 231.8 billion won, while net profit surged 4.6% to 184.1 billion won.
The company’s IT services business generated 1.76 trillion won in revenue, supported by a 17% rise in cloud revenue to 779.4 billion won.
External cloud business revenue jumped 75% year over year due to higher demand for Samsung Cloud Platform services and the expansion of its Graphics Processing Unit-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) offerings among public and enterprise customers.
Cloud management services also recorded 17% revenue growth, supported by AI transformation projects in the financial sector and enterprise resource planning (ERP) projects in the shipbuilding industry.
AI Expansion Supports Digital Finance Strategy
Samsung SDS is expanding its AI business. The company recently won a government-backed project to build AI infrastructure and launched an NPU-as-a-Service product using Furiosa AI’s Renegade neural processing unit.
It also secured projects to create more than 175 AI agents for Woori Bank and develop a generative AI system for the Export-Import Bank of Korea.
To meet demand for AI services, Samsung SDS plans to expand its AI infrastructure capacity from 110 megawatts today to 230 MW by 2029 and more than 800 MW by 2031. The company will continue investing in AI infrastructure, cloud services, and enterprise AI solutions.
