Snoop Dogg and Eminem brought the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFTs and Otherside metaverse  to life with their performance of “From The D 2 The LBC” at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) on Sunday, August 28. The duo’s Metaverse-inspired performance was in collaboration with BAYC and Otherside, Yuga Labs’ gamified metaverse where BAYC NFTs can become players.

The stage transformed into a BAYC-themed video, wherein animated versions of the rappers, some true to life and others anthropomorphized, lit the stage. The rappers spit bars as the visuals of Ape characters, mushrooms, and rainbows were broadcasted. The visuals also paid homage to Long Beach, California, and Michigan, the cities where the rappers originated from.

Yuga Lab’s BAYC, partnered with Animoca brands, a Hongkong-based gaming software company for the Otherside metaverse project. In collaboration with Snoop Dogg and Eminem, their ulterior motive was to receive exposure to Otherside.

While Yuga and Animoca had their agenda, MTV’s Video Music Award seeks to increase its viewership. MTV, which had 12.4 million viewers in 2011, has been slowly declining. Their eight-year hosting of the awards saw only 900,000 viewers stream live. MTV hopes to increase its viewership by adding a new category focused on web 3.0.

Meanwhile, Snoop Dogg, who has been involved in the NFT space, has partnerships with “The Doggies” collections and is said to launch his own NFT. Eminem holds 28 NFTs under his web 3.0 avatar name, “Shady_Holdings.”
