- BancaStato integrates Sygnum’s API to offer regulated crypto trading inside Avaloq channels.
- Clients can buy, hold, and sell Bitcoin, ETH, LTC, and SOL through existing web and mobile apps.
- Sygnum custody keeps client assets off balance sheets with audited institutional safeguards.
Swiss bank BancaStato has introduced regulated cryptocurrency trading through Sygnum, bringing four major digital assets directly into its existing online banking services. Clients can now buy, hold, and sell BTC, ETH, LTC, and SOL through the bank’s web and mobile applications.
Sygnum Handles Execution Through Avaloq Integration
Customers can place market orders based on either cryptocurrency quantity or U.S. dollar value through BancaStato’s digital banking channels. Sygnum executes each purchase or sale through its API integration with Avaloq, while clients continue using BancaStato’s existing web and mobile applications.
Because the setup does not require a separate order management system, BancaStato can reduce the number of technical platforms involved in processing transactions. At the same time, the streamlined structure allows the Swiss Bank to adjust trading features while maintaining its existing risk controls.
Moreover, BancaStato is the first bank operating in Avaloq’s software-as-a-service environment to offer API-based cryptocurrency trading via Sygnum.
Off-Balance-Sheet Custody Strengthens Client Protection
Digital assets purchased through the service are stored within Sygnum’s institutional custody system. The framework combines hardware safeguards, software controls, strict governance procedures, and independent external audits.
In addition, client assets are held off BancaStato’s balance sheet in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements. This arrangement separates customer holdings from the bank’s corporate assets and provides additional protection during bankruptcy proceedings.
Sygnum already provides digital asset infrastructure to institutions including PostFinance, VZ Depotbank, and Societe Generale-FORGE. Therefore, the BancaStato integration adds another established financial institution to its growing banking network.
Sygnum’s European expansion also advanced in late June after Sygnum Europe AG secured a crypto-asset service provider license in Liechtenstein. The authorization allows the company to provide regulated services under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets framework.
The license arrived before MiCA’s transitional period ended on July 1. Consequently, it strengthens Sygnum’s regulated European infrastructure as BancaStato broadens cryptocurrency access through its existing banking channels.
