Telegram is expanding its crypto push with the rollout of Gram Wallet, giving selected users access to a built-in wallet as the company prepares to extend the service across its billion-plus user base.

The launch helped push GRAM to about $1.38, up 0.56% in 24 hours, while trading volume jumped 183%. Telegram Chief Executive Officer Pavel Durov said the wallet will roll out gradually over the next few weeks rather than reach all users at once.

The move could bring crypto payments and digital collectibles to a much larger audience through Telegram. The company has also renamed its existing Wallet in Telegram service to Walt, separating it from the new Gram-focused wallet.

Gram Wallet Expands Telegram’s Crypto Push

Gram Wallet will become Telegram’s default wallet, allowing users to store, send and use digital assets within the app. Users can also make payments and buy Telegram Collectibles, including usernames and digital gifts.

Durov said validators approved the wallet’s smart contract. Developers can upgrade it without requiring users to move their funds. The wallet supports self-custody, instant transfers and zero-fee transactions.

Walt Broadens Crypto Services

Walt supports more than 300 crypto assets across four blockchains. It also offers tokenized stocks, ETFs, metals, yield products and perpetual futures.

The expansion comes as Telegram faces regulatory scrutiny. Australian authorities have taken action over alleged failures to remove extremist content. Telegram could face penalties of up to A$54.6 million if the court rules against it.
