Trump Pushes AI Growth, Tech Stocks Surge as Anthropic Calls for Pause
  • Trump issued a watered-down executive order on model review, AI military adoption and stakes in AI firms.
  • Anthropic advocated a temporary pause on advancing AI capabilities days after its confidential IPO filing.
  • Trump has emphasized maintaining U.S. leadership vs. China and avoiding anything that slows innovation.

President Donald J. Trump is accelerating U.S. artificial intelligence (AI) development through executive orders on model review and another demanding that the U.S. military accelerate AI adoption, along with talks of government stakes in top companies. In contrast, Anthropic has recently called for a temporary pause on frontier AI advances days after its confidential initial public offering (IPO) filing.

Trump Pushes Strong AI Pro-Growth Agenda

As of early June 2026, President Trump has advanced a pro-growth AI agenda. On June 2, he signed the executive order “Promoting Advanced Artificial Intelligence Innovation and Security,” establishing a voluntary framework requiring frontier AI developers to provide up to 30 days of pre-release model access instead of a mandatory 90-day pause.

Additionally, Trump has directed the Department of Defense to accelerate AI adoption, with a particular focus on national cybersecurity. The policy emphasizes faster integration of AI systems into defense infrastructure to strengthen operational capability and maintain U.S. technological advantage in critical security domains.

On June 5, speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump has further signaled openness to government equity stakes in leading AI companies. He described it as a “partnership with the American public” in the AI revolution that “could be a beautiful thing” and would “make ’em rich.”

Anthropic Calls for Temporary Pause on AI Development

Anthropic, the company behind Claude AI models, has advocated for a coordinated global “temporary pause” or slowdown in the development of frontier AI systems. The firm published a blog post titled “When AI Builds Itself,” reinforcing its longstanding focus on AI safety and responsible development amid accelerating capability gains.

The call came amid Anthropic’s confidential initial public offering (IPO) filing, valuing the company at around $965 billion. It contrasted sharply with the Trump administration’s pro-growth AI agenda and drew mixed reactions, with supporters praising the safety focus and critics questioning its timing given the company’s rapid advancement.

What’s Next for AI Regulation and Innovation

Trump’s approach is expected to prioritize deregulation and public-private partnerships, potentially boosting AI infrastructure and adoption across sectors including emerging intersections with blockchain and decentralized technologies. He has emphasized maintaining U.S. leadership over China and avoiding any measures that could slow innovation.

OpenAI has confidentially filed for an IPO on the U.S. stock market, signaling a potential public listing amid rising AI investor demand. Meanwhile, Apple’s annual developer conference unveiled a revamped “Siri AI” and new child safety features for iPhones and iPads, expanding its AI ecosystem integration. At press time, several AI stocks rose: Nvidia gained over 1%, while Marvell and Micron climbed between 4% and 7%, and AMD and Intel also rose more than 1%.

Therefore, a pause in AI development would benefit Anthropic, valued at around $965 billion, as it appears to be overtaking its main rival OpenAI, valued at roughly $850 billion. Analysts project continued strong growth, with the U.S. AI market expected to hit $750.04 billion by 2030, despite concerns over energy demand, infrastructure strain, and long-term control risks.
