US President-elect Donald Trump has named David Sacks, former PayPal chief operating officer, as the White House AI and crypto czar. Sacks will lead the administration’s policies on artificial intelligence (AI) and cryptocurrency and oversee efforts to establish clear guidelines for digital assets in the U.S.

In a Truth Social post, Trump described AI and cryptocurrencies as “critical to the future of American competitiveness” and highlighted Sacks’ experience in both industries. The president-elect expressed confidence in Sacks’ ability to position the U.S. as a global leader in AI and crypto.

The new AI and crypto czar will also work to “safeguard Free Speech online” and counteract Big Tech’s alleged bias and censorship, according to Trump. Sacks’ responsibilities include chairing the Presidential Council of Advisors for Science and Technology, a position that underscores his importance in shaping the future of crypto in the U.S.

David Sacks is a well-known entrepreneur with a track record in Silicon Valley. He founded Yammer, later acquired by Microsoft, and co-founded Craft Ventures, a San Francisco-based venture capital firm. Atkins, who served as an SEC Commissioner from 2002 to 2008, joins a team that includes Commissioners Hester Peirce and Mark Uyeda, forming what Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse calls a group that will bring “common sense” to the agency.

Following these announcements, Bitcoin’s price surged past $100,000, marking a significant milestone. Garlinghouse applauded the appointments, particularly Sacks, stating that he “understands tech inside and out” and will advance Trump’s pro-crypto and AI policies.
