Will Solana Overtake XRP In Market Cap?
  • Solana ranks 7th by market cap behind XRP with a nearly $22B gap per ElanInsights’ dashboard as of July 2026.
  • SOL market cap sits at $47.3B while XRP dominates at $69B with XRP having larger circulating supply.
  • The question remains if SOL can overtake XRP, but closing the gap requires substantial SOL price gains.

As of July 3, 2026, the crypto community is debating whether Solana’s (SOL) can overtake Ripple’s XRP in market capitalization. SOL currently ranks 7th with roughly $47 billion, trailing XRP’s $69 billion. Both assets have recorded impressive spot Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) performance this year and are attached to vibrant and active ecosystems.

SOL Ranks 7th Behind XRP With a $22B Market Cap Gap

SOL ranks 7th with a market capitalization of approximately $47B, trailing behind XRP which ranks 6th with a market cap of roughly $68–69B. This creates a gap of nearly $22B, which is consistent with recent dashboard data from @ElanInsights.

Meanwhile, both assets have seen impressive inflows through spot ETFs throughout 2026, and they drive extremely active ecosystems. XRP is driven by its focus on cross border payments and institutional adoption via Ripple, while SOL’s high throughput blockchain supports DeFi, NFTs, and memecoins.

Why XRP Remains Ahead Despite Solana’s Strong Growth

Despite SOL’s impressive technical capabilities, rapid ecosystem expansion, and recent price momentum, XRP maintains a significant lead in market cap. XRP has a much larger circulating supply of 62B out of the 100B total supply, compared to SOL’s 580M circulating tokens, giving XRP a much larger valuation base.

This high supply is a major factor in XRP’s higher market cap despite its lower unit price of approximately $1.10, compared to SOL’s $81. Meanwhile, SOL’s uncapped supply and modest inflation adds another layer of dilution pressure, creating an additional hurdle for sustaining valuation growth.

Beyond supply dynamics, XRP benefits from established use in cross border payments and growing adoption for real world asset (RWA) tokenization on the XRP Ledger. Ripple’s compliance tools, institutional collaborations and over $1.4B in spot ETF inflows, further enhance its appeal to traditional finance.

What’s Next: Can SOL Overtake XRP in Market Cap?

Whether SOL can overtake XRP in market cap remains one of crypto’s biggest debates. Solana’s high transaction throughput, low fees, and vibrant ecosystem in DeFi, memecoins, and developer activity position it for explosive growth in a risk-on environment.

Bullish predictions suggest SOL could reach between $150 and $300 or higher in 2026, potentially driving its market cap above $100B if XRP’s growth slows. Ongoing growth in ETF inflows, upgrades such as Alpenglow, and the dominance of on-chain activity could further drive capital into SOL’s higher beta narrative.

However, regulatory clarity including potential CLARITY Act progress, and steady ETF demand could support further inflows, keeping XRP competitive. Many forecasts see XRP trading between $2–$5 or higher by end-2026 or 2027 under favorable conditions, which would require SOL to deliver even stronger relative gains to overtake XRP.
