XRP Ledger Prepares for Version 3.2.0 Upgrade and Core Software Rebrand
  • XRP Ledger 3.2.0 will introduce the xrpld rebrand and require infrastructure updates.
  • Validators and node operators will receive a migration playbook ahead of deployment.
  • The upcoming release follows XRPL 3.1.3, which passed with a 100% consensus vote.

The XRP Ledger network is preparing for another mainnet upgrade as XRP Ledger Operations announced that version 3.2.0 will be deployed soon. Alongside the software update, the network is also introducing a major change to its core infrastructure, with the software previously known as “rippled” now renamed “xrpld.”

The announcement was made through a post on X, where XRP Ledger Operations confirmed that XRP Ledger 3.2.0 is nearing release. According to the team, the software name change will affect the tools and infrastructure used by participants that help maintain network operations.

Infrastructure Operators Prepare for Transition

XRP Ledger Operations said the migration will require technical updates from infrastructure providers, validators, and node operators. To support the process, the team disclosed that a detailed playbook is being developed to guide participants through the transition and help maintain network participation during the upgrade period.

The announcement included a GIF previewing the change. In the visual, the command-line interface displays the new software identity, showing “xrpld version 3.2.0” during a version check. The demo also highlighted the rebranding of the software powering the XRP Ledger network.

According to the team, the migration guidance currently under development is intended to provide participants with the information needed to update systems before the upgrade reaches the mainnet.

Validators Focus on Ongoing Protocol Development

The upcoming release received attention from members of the XRP Ledger validator community. dUNL validator Vet commented on the announcement, noting that protocol improvements remain important regardless of changing market conditions.

Vet pointed specifically to the transition from “rippled” to “xrpld” as a key component of the upcoming release. He also acknowledged the work being carried out by developers involved in maintaining and updating the protocol.

Upgrade Follows Recent Mainnet Activation

The planned rollout of version 3.2.0 follows shortly after the activation of XRP Ledger version 3.1.3 on the mainnet. That upgrade became effective at ledger index 104,507,137 on May 27 and included the activation of the fixCleanup3_1_3 amendment.

At the time, network participants running older software versions were required to upgrade in order to continue participating in consensus and network operations. Ripple CTO Emeritus David Schwartz also addressed community questions surrounding the release after the amendments secured unanimous approval through a 100% consensus vote.
