  • XRPL 3.4.0 is the reference server implementation of the XRP Ledger protocol.
  • The new upgrade aims to make XRPL more appealing for institutional credit markets.
  • The XRPL 3.4.0 upgrade and Batch V1.1 serve distinctive primary purposes.

XRP Ledger developers have announced XRPL version 3.4.0, the reference server implementation of the XRP Ledger protocol. The update introduces two new amendments, retires one, and adds bug fixes and build improvements.

XRPL 3.4.0 Upgrade Explained

XRPL 3.4.0 upgrade aims to expand institutional decentralized finance (DeFi) and strengthen core network security. Its headline feature is the introduction of the lending protocol v1.1 amendment package. The upgrade builds on previous lending frameworks to make the XRPL appealing to corporate and institutional credit markets.

The key features of the newly introduced lending protocol include closed-ended vaults, allowing institutions to set up structured, fixed-term lending pools. It also introduces cash-basis accounting to enable standard mechanics and uncollateralized pooled credits, which extend the single-asset vault infrastructure to support uncollateralized enterprise lending with pooled on-chain funds.

Beyond lending, XRPL version 3.4.0 introduces a maintenance and optimization package aimed at node stabilization, while changing how node operators maintain the infrastructure. The upgrade migrates signed Linux server packages to a new repository hosted directly by the XRPL Foundation.

Differentiating Between XRPL 3.4.0 and Batch V1.1

The XRPL 3.4.0 feature update and the Batch V1.1 amendment serve distinct roles within the XRP Ledger roadmap. XRPL 3.4.0 introduces changes aimed at on-chain credit and capital markets for institutional finance, while Batch V1.1 focuses on infrastructure by enabling atomic execution and transaction bundling across multiple accounts.

Although XRPL 3.4.0 and Batch V1.1 upgrades are being introduced around the same time, they are independent and sit at different stages in the network’s broader lifecycle. The former is a core server release that acts as the physical delivery mechanism. Meanwhile, the latter is an amendment representing a specific functional feature shipped in a previous server release.

Overall, XRPL 3.4.0 expands the network’s focus on institutional finance through new lending capabilities. At the same time, Batch V1.1 strengthens transaction execution at the infrastructure level. Together, they reflect XRPL’s broader push to scale both functionality and network performance.
