XRP Ledger has now processed over 10 million payments via the x402 protocol, a sign that machine-to-machine payments are taking off fast, providing XRPL with another foothold in the growing AI agent economy.
The milestone came less than three months after XRPL hit its first 1 million x402 payments. Recent data shows the network is now handling more than 500,000 of these payments per day, based on a seven-day average.
That number is notable for XRPL because x402 lets software pay for things automatically as part of an online request. An AI agent can hit a service that costs money, get the payment details, send an on-chain transaction, and then access what it needs, all without a person signing off on each payment.
On XRPL, those payments can be made in XRP or RLUSD.
Distinguishing XRPL Network Activity From Direct XRP Demand
Still, the 10 million payments point more to network usage than to direct demand for XRP.
If an AI agent pays for an API, data feed, or computing power in XRP, that creates demand for the token. However, if it pays in RLUSD, the transaction still adds activity to XRPL without necessarily needing the same XRP liquidity.
Every XRPL transaction burns a tiny XRP fee (starting at 10 drops), but those fees are extremely small.
It’s worth mentioning that just because there are 10 million payments doesn’t mean 10 million XRP are being bought and held.
For x402 activity to really become a stronger price catalyst, the ecosystem would probably need a lot more payment volume denominated in XRP, plus bigger liquidity needs and larger treasury holdings. Steady demand from service providers and AI agents would also help.
The broader x402 ecosystem is gaining ground too, as the Linux Foundation launched the x402 Foundation with 40 members, aiming to build the protocol into an open, vendor-neutral standard for internet-native payments between AI agents and applications.
Important XRP Price Zones
As new adoption stories take shape, traders should watch a few key zones.
At the moment, XRP is trading around the $1.50 mark, with recent technical analysis placing nearby support around $1.46 and deeper support near $1.37. On the other hand, resistance has emerged at roughly $1.51, followed by the late-September high near $1.65.
A decisive breakout past $1.65 would shift market focus toward the $1.70 zone.
Ultimately, the real test for x402 is whether all these transactions start driving tangible economic value. For that to happen, several elements will need to align.
For instance, if AI bots opt for XRP as an alternative to RLUSD more often, payment values go up, and businesses start holding onto XRP cash reserves. Until then, it’s safer to view this 10 million milestone as an indicator of XRPL’s utility and its growth, as opposed to an automatic proof that XRP’s market value is rising by the same amount.
