Ripple’s former CTO and XRP Ledger co‑creator David Schwartz posted on X that he was briefly taking his personal XRPL hub offline for about ten minutes to update it to version 3.2.0. While the post itself appeared routine, version 3.2.0 is a big deal for XRPL. It’s one of the key infrastructure releases of 2026 and part of a larger effort to modernize the network.

Schwartz’s hub is one of the pieces of infrastructure he runs on his own to support XRPL. He’s talked about running independent nodes before, and back in 2025, Schwartz launched his own production‑grade server to help spread out network infrastructure beyond just Ripple.

In May 2026, Schwartz became an honorary board member of the XRPL Foundation. The community saw it as a good sign, since one of the original builders is staying closely involved in guiding technical development.

What Exactly Is XRPL 3.2.0?

The official XRPL Foundation release says version 3.2.0 is mostly about maintenance, security, and cleanup. However, infrastructure upgrades such as this are often more important than flashy new features because they make the network more stable and secure.

Perhaps the most visible change is the renaming of the XRP Ledger’s core server software.

XRPL nodes used to run software called rippled, but with version 3.2.0, it’s now xrpld. The XRPL community has long stated that XRP Ledger is an open, independent blockchain and not a Ripple product, and this name change reinforces that message.

Another notable part in the new version is the introduction of the fixCleanup3_2_0 amendment. This bundles together fixes for a handful of newer XRPL features, such as single‑asset vaults, the lending protocol, permissioned DEX, multi‑purpose tokens, and permissioned domains.

Also, the update addresses validation and invariant‑checking bugs that could act up in certain situations.

As for XRP Ledger itself, recent data shows that the blockchain is gaining ground on Ethereum when it comes to RLUSD adoption. XRPL now hosts roughly 46% of the total RLUSD supply, while Ethereum has about 54%. This represents a notable growth, considering Ethereum hosted nearly 88% of RLUSD supply at one point last year.
