- Ripple has introduced the XRPL AI Starter Kit for developers building autonomous payment applications.
- X402 support allows AI agents to pay for APIs, computing services, and model inference using XRP or RLUSD.
- XRP Ledger transactions settle in three to five seconds with predictable fees and protocol-level controls.
AI agents are beginning to move beyond answering questions and generating content. Some can now purchase computing resources, pay for online services, and settle transactions without waiting for someone to approve each step.
Ripple is preparing the XRP Ledger for that shift by launching the XRPL AI Starter Kit. The new package combines documentation, software integrations, and payment tools designed for developers building machine-to-machine commerce on XRPL.
Developers Gain New Agent Tools
The starter kit launches in phases, with the first stage focused on helping AI agents discover XRPL resources, understand its functions, and complete payments.
Developers can now connect compatible AI clients to the XRPL Docs MCP Server. The tool allows applications such as Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, and custom agent frameworks to retrieve XRP Ledger documentation while performing tasks.
Ripple has also released an XRPL Agent Wallet Skill and a Payment Skill for Claude. These tools provide structured access to common actions, including creating wallets, checking balances, sending payments, and tracking transactions.
Additionally, xrpl.org now includes a practical tutorial for building agentic transactions. Ripple says developers can install the XRPL skill, generate a testnet wallet, fund it through a faucet, and complete a confirmed payment in under 30 minutes.

X402 Brings Automated Payments to XRPL
One of the main additions is support for the X402 payment protocol through a contribution from infrastructure company t54. The integration allows XRPL-based agents to pay for API access, AI model inference, computing resources, and other digital services.
Agents can use either XRP or Ripple USD, known as RLUSD. The process works through HTTP-native payments, giving applications a direct route from requesting a service to settling the associated charge.
The launch diagram shows two possible transaction paths. An agent can use X402 through the t54 facilitator or send a direct XRPL payment through the available skills and software development tools. Both routes settle on the XRP Ledger.

XRPL Targets Machine-to-Machine Commerce
Ripple has positioned speed and cost certainty as central parts of the product. XRPL transactions typically settle within three to five seconds, while fees are known before execution rather than determined through gas auctions.
Deterministic finality also gives agents a clear result. A transaction either confirms or expires, reducing the need for repeated checks and uncertain pending states.
Meanwhile, the ledger supports XRP, RLUSD, and other issued assets through native multi-currency payments. Its decentralized exchange can convert one asset into another within the same transaction, avoiding separate swap contracts or external bridges.
Institutional controls are built into the network as well. Escrow, multi-signing, deposit authorization, and trust lines can restrict who an agent pays, how funds move, and which approvals remain necessary.
RLUSD adds a dollar-denominated option for workflows that require stable pricing, including invoices, payroll, and payments between autonomous systems. XRP can support other transaction flows where native liquidity and rapid settlement are required.
The XRPL AI Starter Kit begins with payment execution and developer access. Later phases will expand around feedback from builders and new use cases emerging from autonomous software.
