- CZ pledged support for Bitget, highlighting solidarity between competing exchanges.
- Bitget revised affected assets to $387.5 million after tracing additional transfers.
- Bitget said its $464M-plus protection fund covered losses; withdrawals stayed paused.
The Bitget hack has brought community solidarity into focus, with Binance founder Changpeng Zhao pledging support as the exchange investigates unauthorized transfers. Bitget’s acknowledgment of Binance’s support adds another dimension to the incident, in which competing platforms respond to a security threat while customers await access to withdrawals.
The exchange initially reported $351.6 million in affected assets before revising that estimate to $387.5 million. Beyond the financial damage, the response raises a question for users: what supports belief in crypto systems when its safeguards fail?
Bitget Hack Draws Support Across Exchange Communities
Following Bitget’s disclosure, Zhao publicly signaled support from Binance, the BNB Chain ecosystem and its community. “Tough day for Bitget,” he wrote, adding that those groups would “do everything we can to help.”
Bitget’s acknowledgment placed that support alongside its own emergency response. The exchange said it had engaged law enforcement and blockchain security partners, while its investigation with Mandiant and SlowMist remained ongoing.
Customer Access Keeps Trust at the Center
For customers, the incident also involves access to funds. Bitget said account balances remained accurate, and deposits and trading continued, but withdrawals were temporarily paused for security checks.
The exchange said its User Protection Fund held more than $464 million and covered the incident. It also reported that cold wallets remained secure.
Nevertheless, financial coverage and withdrawal access serve as different parts of the customer experience. The protection fund addresses reported losses, while restoration depends on completing security reviews and remediation.
Meanwhile, Bitget attributed the higher loss estimate to additional transaction tracing across Zcash and TRON. It said the revision reflected previously uncounted transfers, rather than another breach.
Shared Responsibility Requires Visible Follow-Through
The response places specific actions alongside community statements, flagging attacker addresses, coordinating investigations, explaining revised figures and communicating withdrawal plans. It also gives users information beyond platform size or customer numbers when evaluating how exchanges respond under pressure.
Zhao’s pledge and Bitget’s acknowledgment document support the relationship between competitors. Whether that cooperation strengthens confidence or encourages adoption is not measured in the supplied updates.
