The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission will hold the first meeting of its Innovation Advisory Committee on Aug. 20, with crypto regulation among the main issues on the agenda.
The committee will examine how the US can move from a patchwork of digital-asset rules toward clearer federal oversight. Members will also discuss regulatory barriers facing crypto companies.
Crypto Regulation Takes Center Stage
The opening session, “Crypto’s Regulatory Evolution: From Uncertainty to Clarity,” will examine how digital-asset regulation has developed and where gaps remain.
Participants will discuss state licensing, overlapping regulatory powers and the lack of unified federal rules for crypto markets. They will also consider how the current system affects innovation and investment.

AI and Prediction Markets
The committee will also examine AI’s impact on trading, compliance, surveillance and risk management.
One session will focus on “agentic finance,” where autonomous systems could execute trades or manage portfolios. Regulators will consider how to oversee the technology and protect customers.
The final session will cover prediction markets and event contracts, including pricing, manipulation, surveillance and federal-state authority.
The meeting comes as the Securities and Exchange Commission considers its approach to crypto investment contracts and potential exemptions for tokenized stocks and on-chain trading.
