  • CoinDCX temporarily restricts futures trading to Reduce-Only mode.
  • Users can manage or close existing positions but cannot open new trades.
  • Deposits and withdrawals remain unaffected as traders await further updates.

India’s crypto exchange, CoinDCX, has temporarily limited futures trading following recent developments surrounding the Binance security breach. The exchange has switched its futures market to Reduce-Only mode. Thus, users are prevented from opening new positions or increasing existing trades. However, users can still manage and close their current positions.

CoinDCX Moves Futures Market to Reduce-Only Mode

CoinDCX shared an official X post today, announcing its decision to temporarily restrict futures trading by switching the market to Reduce-Only mode. This means that users cannot open new futures positions. They also cannot increase the size of their existing trades.

However, the platform stated that traders can still manage their active positions. They can add or remove margin, reduce their exposure, or close their trades according to their requirements. Also, the exchange confirmed that deposits and withdrawals continue to work normally, with no disruption to users’ funds.

Why Did CoinDCX Restrict Futures Trading?

In its X post, CoinDCX stated that the introduction of restrictions on futures trading comes as a precaution to manage potential liquidity risks. The precaution comes in response to the recent developments involving a “global liquidity provider.”

Nonetheless, the exchange hasn’t directly mentioned the name of the liquidity provider. But the timing coincides with Binance’s October 30 security incident. The move appears to be aimed at limiting additional trading exposure as the exchange monitors the situation.

Binance Security Breach Raises Questions About Liquidity Impact

Significantly, the most recent hacking attack on Binance has brought people’s attention to its possible effect on the crypto market. Since Binance is among the largest crypto exchanges, it has an immense influence on trading and liquidity in the market. Its disruption might affect market activity and the transfer of funds between connected platforms.

There were many precautions taken by the platforms after the hack. Binance suspended deposits and withdrawals. Other industry players have also taken action. Aave froze its lending markets to prevent attackers from opening new supply and borrowing positions. Stablecoin issuers like Circle and Tether have also frozen more than $2.38 billion in assets linked to the incident. Ripple froze about $200 million in affected assets.

CoinDCX Users Await Further Updates

As CoinDCX has not given further details about the restrictions, traders are waiting for further updates. It is still unclear when normal futures trading will resume. The exchange has also assured users that deposits and withdrawals remain unaffected. For now, users can only reduce or close their existing positions and manage their margins.

The platform has stated that further updates on the matter will be shared via its official communication channels. Traders are advised to monitor these announcements for information about the restoration of Norman futures trading.
