Hyperliquid is facing questions about market oversight after a suspected trading manipulation involving more than $170 million in oil orders. The case has raised concerns about how crypto derivatives platforms monitor trading activity.

According to reports, monitoring firm Solidus Labs identified two accounts that placed and quickly canceled large orders during oil price swings from March 8 to 10. The activity may indicate spoofing, a tactic in which traders place orders they do not intend to execute to influence prices. The trader’s identity and intent remain unconfirmed.

Oil Orders Raise Market Manipulation Concerns

Solidus estimated that the trader made about $119,000 during the period. In one example, an account canceled roughly $17 million in sell orders while buying about $425,000 worth of contracts.

Hyperliquid Labs said its on-chain records allow the public to review orders, cancellations and trades. Trade.xyz also pointed to order limits and ongoing monitoring as measures intended to limit market abuse.

Separately, Polymarket investigated bets linked to the Nov. 3 U.S. midterm elections. Investigators referred at least two cases to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

Pump.fun Expands Access to Hyperliquid Markets

Pump.fun launched perpetual futures trading on Oct. 28 through an integration with Hyperliquid. The service gives users access to crypto, stock-linked and commodity-linked contracts using their existing USDC balances.

Users can access these markets without first transferring assets to another blockchain. The launch adds another trading service to the Hyperliquid ecosystem as questions about order practices and market oversight draw attention across crypto markets.
