  • Trader Realist says armed robbers stole $800K in crypto and a Rolex watch during a home invasion in the UK.
  • Realist warned UK crypto holders to prioritize personal safety and consider leaving the country.
  • The incident highlights security risks for crypto holders who share their wealth and financial details online.

Crypto trader Realist on X said armed robbers broke into his home in the UK, tied him up with tape, and forced him to hand over about $800,000 in crypto at knifepoint.

The attackers threatened to kill him while holding three knives to his face. They stole around $40,000 from his main wallets, another $720,000 from his Ledger hardware wallet, and a Rolex watch. They also took and smashed his phone.

“I just got my house invaded, taped up, held at knife point and robbed for $800k,” Realist wrote, saying he was in shock.

Police Investigate Crypto Robbery

He later confirmed that police were at his home and treating it as a crime scene. He suffered a few bruises but said he was grateful to have escaped without serious injuries.

“You always hear about these things but never think it will happen to you,” he added.

After the incident, Realist warned UK crypto holders to consider their safety and suggested they leave the country.

Crypto Community Raises Security Concerns

The incident stirred reactions from other crypto users. Trader @trading_axe advised Realist to improve his personal security and save any available evidence.

He suggested collecting CCTV footage from nearby homes and businesses, including doorbell cameras, to help police track the attackers and identify any vehicles involved. He also recommended 24-hour security monitoring and better home security.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of crypto holders who publicly share their profits, wallet balances, or wealth online. Such information could attract criminals looking for wealthy targets.

X user @NewEra_HL suggested that the attackers may have located Realist through photos he had shared on social media months earlier. However, Realist responded that the photo of a home he posted at the time was taken several hours away from his residence.

Ultimately, the case also shows that hardware wallets like Ledger cannot protect users from physical threats. While these devices help secure crypto assets, they cannot prevent someone from forcing an owner to hand over their funds.

Crypto holders should therefore protect both their digital assets and personal safety. Keeping financial details private and improving home security can reduce risks.
