- ETH holds above key EMAs as bulls prepare for a potential $2,600 breakout.
- Fresh whale purchases worth $73.6 million could reinforce Ethereum’s recovery.
- Rising open interest signals renewed activity but raises leverage-driven risks.
Ethereum is holding above key moving averages as traders assess whether the latest consolidation can fuel another breakout. ETH trades near $2,466 after cooling from its recent advance toward $2,549. However, buyers continue defending the $2,448.7 20 EMA on the four-hour chart. That support keeps the short-term structure constructive despite weaker momentum.
Moreover, renewed whale accumulation has added another bullish element to the current setup. Two fresh addresses recently accumulated 30,000 ETH worth roughly $73.6 million combined. Their possible connection to Bitmine has attracted additional market attention.
ETH Holds a Bullish Technical Structure
ETH remains above its 20, 50, 100, and 200 EMAs. Consequently, the broader four-hour trend continues to favor buyers. However, ETH faces immediate resistance at the $2,500 psychological level.
A decisive break above $2,500 could encourage buyers to retest $2,548.8. This level marks the recent swing high and remains the key breakout barrier. A four-hour close above $2,548.8 could open the path toward $2,600.
Besides, momentum indicators offer some support for the bullish case. The Stochastic RSI has recovered from oversold conditions. Nevertheless, momentum remains relatively subdued after the recent rally.
The first important defense sits at $2,448.7, where the 20 EMA currently stands. Losing that level could expose ETH to $2,408.2. This area aligns with the 0.786 Fibonacci level.

A deeper correction could then target $2,333.2, where the 50 EMA provides stronger support. Below that zone, $2,288.2 becomes the next major Fibonacci support.
Whale Accumulation Adds Fresh Interest
Ethereum’s on-chain activity also offers an important development for traders. A new address, 0xAef…Dc00B, accumulated 20,000 ETH within 50 minutes.
The purchase carried an estimated value of $48.89 million. Some market observers suspect the address could belong to Bitmine. However, blockchain data does not confirm that connection.
Additionally, another address, 0xceB…e66ea, accumulated 10,000 ETH around 10 hours earlier. That purchase represented approximately $24.72 million.
This second wallet also carries a possible Bitmine connection. Hence, the two transactions deserve attention without treating the ownership speculation as confirmed.
Bitmine currently holds about 5,847,611 ETH worth roughly $14.4 billion. Its reported average acquisition price stands near $3,359. Consequently, its holdings remain significantly underwater at current prices.

Still, continued accumulation could signal confidence in Ethereum’s longer-term outlook. It could also increase market interest if additional large purchases emerge.
Open Interest Signals Rising Risk
Ethereum’s derivatives market has experienced substantial swings alongside price movements. Open interest rose from below $10 billion in mid-2024 to above $30 billion by early 2025.

It later surged toward $60 billion during the August-October rally. Open interest eventually approached $65 billion before declining sharply during Ethereum’s subsequent weakness.
The latest reading sits near $31.99 billion. Therefore, derivatives participation has recovered considerably from its lows. However, rising leverage could amplify volatility if ETH suddenly reverses.
Exchange Flows Offer a Mixed Signal
Spot exchange flows provide a similarly mixed picture. Outflows have dominated several periods, particularly during May, June, and July. Such withdrawals can indicate accumulation and reduced immediate selling pressure.

However, notable inflow spikes also appeared during February, March, and July. These deposits may reflect profit-taking or renewed exchange selling.
On August 26, netflow reached approximately $18.45 million while ETH traded near $2,466. Overall, the flow picture remains balanced rather than decisively bullish.
Technical Outlook For Ethereum Price
Key levels remain clearly defined as Ethereum consolidates below the $2,500 psychological barrier.
Upside levels: $2,500, $2,548.8, and $2,600 stand as the immediate hurdles. A decisive breakout above $2,548.8 could strengthen momentum toward $2,600 and potentially higher.
Downside levels: $2,448.7 provides immediate support, followed by $2,408.2, $2,333.2, and $2,288.2. The $2,333.2 area, aligned with the 50 EMA, remains an important level for maintaining the broader bullish structure.
The technical picture suggests ETH is consolidating after its recent rally, with buyers still defending key moving-average support. However, rising open interest and renewed whale accumulation could increase volatility around the next breakout.
Will Ethereum Go Up?
Ethereum’s near-term direction hinges on whether buyers can push ETH above $2,500 and reclaim the $2,548.8 swing high. A sustained breakout could open the path toward $2,600, while stronger momentum could support further gains. However, losing the $2,448.7 20 EMA would weaken short-term momentum and expose ETH to $2,408.2 and $2,333.2.

For now, Ethereum remains in a pivotal consolidation zone. Whale accumulation and improving derivatives activity provide bullish signals, but elevated leverage could also amplify downside volatility. A breakout above $2,548.8 or a breakdown below $2,448.7 should determine ETH’s next major move.
