Ethereum is nearing a key technical level as investor Tom Lee points to a possible breakout above the daily Ichimoku Cloud.

Lee shared the analysis on Aug. 17, showing Ether about 3.5% below the cloud. The indicator has capped ETH since Oct. 9, 2025. A move above it could signal stronger momentum.

ETH Faces a Technical Turning Point

The daily Ichimoku Cloud helps traders gauge price momentum. Moving above the cloud is generally seen as a sign that buyers are gaining control, although stronger buying activity would be needed to confirm the move.

Traders are also watching institutional inflows, network activity and expectations for easier liquidity. These factors could determine whether Ether holds above the cloud after a breakout.

Lee kept his reaction brief, saying, “Would be good to see.”

DonAlt Keeps His Target Cautious

Trader DonAlt has floated a $10,000 Ethereum target but said he would likely take profits before reaching it.

He opened a long position near $1,900 on Aug. 13 despite Ether trading in a consolidation range.

“I am less comfortable having no position than having one at a less-than-optimal price,” he said.

DonAlt said he could add to the position if Ether falls toward $1,700, giving him another entry point at a lower price.
