Ethereum Price Analysis: Can ETH Clear Its Rising Trendline Near $2,700?

ETH has yet to break cleanly through a rising trendline near $2,700, trading at $2,662.58 after pulling back to the line from a September peak near $2,800. The trendline runs back through the April high, and price has hovered around it for more than a week.

Below price, the 20-day exponential moving average (EMA), a trend line that weights recent prices more heavily, sits at $2,616.57. The 50-day EMA at $2,445.18 and the Supertrend at $2,439.02 form the next cushion, about 8% under price.

The Supertrend, a trend tool that trails price and flips when the trend turns, has stayed in buy mode since July. ETH trades above all four EMAs, and the 100-day at $2,280.93 now sits above the 200-day at $2,267.02.

Ethereum October Seasonality: Seven Gains in 11 Years

ETH has closed October higher in seven of 11 years since 2015, with an average return of 5.71% and a median of only 1.44%. A few large years, including 42.8% in 2021 and 24.8% in 2015, lift the average, so the median is the better guide. The last two Octobers both finished lower, at 7.15% in 2025 and 3.16% in 2024.

September adds context. ETH is up 8.01% this month in a month that has averaged an 8.72% loss. Applied to $2,662.58, the median October return implies about $2,701 and the average implies about $2,815, both historical references rather than targets.

ETH News: Bitfinex Shorts Surge as Julian Flags a Possible Squeeze

Trader Julian said ETH has been moving between $2,650 and $2,700, still below a $2,750 to $2,800 resistance area. He pointed to Bitfinex, where ETH short positions rose from about 771 ETH to more than 101,000 ETH in two weeks. Shorts are bets on a falling price, so a break above resistance could force them to buy back and push price higher, which is his read rather than a confirmed setup.

Julian also said Wednesday’s monthly close could make this ETH’s strongest September since 2016. The CryptoRank table supports that, showing September 2026 at +8.01% against +13.3% in 2016 and lower figures in every year since.

ETH News: ETH Overtakes BTC in Open Interest on Hyperliquid

Degen News reported that ETH has flipped BTC as the market with the highest open interest on Hyperliquid. Open interest is the total value of open contracts, so more money is now riding on ETH positions than BTC positions on that exchange. The post gave no figures or long-short split, so it shows where traders are placing bets but not which direction they favor.

ETH News: Aztec Relaunches zk.money to Bring Private Payments to Ethereum

Aztec Labs CEO Joe Andrews told Milk Road host John Gillan that zk.money, a private payments app built on Aztec’s privacy-focused Ethereum layer 2, goes live this week. Key points from the interview:

  • Users pay anyone through a human-readable tag, similar to Venmo, with no seed phrases and no gas fees inside the app, and payments stay private and non-custodial.
  • Launch features are payments and conditional payment links, with savings, swaps, bank transfers and card payments planned for later this year.
  • The first zk.money shut down as Aztec moved to a decentralized network, which Andrews said now runs on roughly 4,500 to 5,000 nodes. Gillan cited about 75,000 wallets and $100 million in volume for that version, figures Andrews did not address.

Andrews said Aztec settles on Ethereum rather than its own layer 1 because that is where the most economic activity sits, adding that “privacy enables products rather than privacy is the product.” He is promoting his own company’s launch, and nothing in the interview links zk.money to ETH’s price.

Ethereum Price Prediction for October 2026: Week-by-Week Outlook

PeriodExpected RangeKey Levels
Oct 1 to 7$2,550 to $2,750$2,617 needs to hold on dips, and a daily close above $2,700 would clear the trendline.
Oct 8 to 14$2,600 to $2,800Holding above $2,700 puts the $2,800 September high in range.
Oct 15 to 21$2,650 to $3,000A close above $2,800 opens $3,000, while a failure there sends price back toward $2,617.
Oct 22 to 31$2,450 to $3,000$2,445 is the floor, and the month-end close decides whether the August breakout holds.

Ethereum Price Prediction: Bullish and Bearish Scenarios for October

Bullish Case, Target: $2,800

ETH holds the 20-day EMA at $2,617 and closes a day above the $2,700 trendline. A push through the $2,750 to $2,800 resistance area would open $3,000 and could force Bitfinex shorts to cover, according to Julian’s read.

Bearish Case, Risk Level: $2,445 (50-Day EMA)

ETH loses $2,617 and a rejection at the trendline turns into a slide toward the 50-day EMA at $2,445, where the Supertrend at $2,439 also sits. A daily close below both would flip the Supertrend to a sell signal and expose the 100-day EMA at $2,281.

Ethereum Price Prediction FAQs

What is the Ethereum price prediction for October 2026?

ETH could extend toward $2,800 and then $3,000 in October if it holds above $2,445 and clears the $2,700 trendline. A daily close below the 50-day EMA at $2,445 and the Supertrend at $2,439 would put the 100-day EMA at $2,281 in play.

Will Ethereum reach $3,000 or $4,000 in October?

$3,000 is possible but not the base case, since it needs a gain of about 12.7% from $2,662.58 and a clean break of the $2,800 September high. Three of the 11 Octobers since 2015 gained that much, against a median of 1.44%. $4,000 would need about 50%, more than any October in the table, where the best was 42.8% in 2021.

Could Ethereum fall below $2,500 in October?

Yes, if it loses the 20-day EMA at $2,617 and the trendline keeps rejecting price. That is a drop of about 6.1%, and three of the 11 Octobers since 2015 fell by more than that, in 2025, 2018 and 2016. The 50-day EMA at $2,445 is the next support below $2,500.

How has Ethereum performed in October historically?

ETH closed October higher in seven of 11 years from 2015 through 2025, with an average gain of 5.71% and a median of 1.44%. The last two Octobers were both down, at 7.15% in 2025 and 3.16% in 2024.
