The high-profile Mahadev betting app case has once again come into the spotlight as the CBI arrested alleged kingpin Abhishek Kumar in Hyderabad. Abhishek, who was accused of playing a key role in the operation of betting panels and the collection of proceeds, was reportedly arrested after arriving from Dubai.

Notably, Abhishek’s arrest has brought attention to the wider money trail linked to the Mahadev betting app case. The investigating team had previously traced alleged proceeds to Dubai-based assets and crypto investments such as Bitcoin and USDT.

India’s CBI Arrests Mahadev Betting App Kingpin

According to the latest report from The Times of India, the CBI arrested Abhishek Kumar, a key accused in the Mahadev online betting and gambling case. He was arrested in Hyderabad after arriving from Dubai.

Allegedly, Abhishek helped coordinate betting panels and collect money generated through the operation. As noted by the CBI, Abhishek was actively involved in running online betting and gambling activities through the Mahadev book. The agency stated that it recovered incriminating material during a search following his arrest, which indicates his possible involvement in the operation of the Mahadev betting app. The statement read,

“The seized material prima facie shows his active role in the operation of the Mahadev Betting App and he worked closely with other main accused namely Saurabh Chandrakar and Shubham Soni.”

Mahadev Money Trail Leads to Dubai and Crypto

Significantly, the CBI’s investigation into the Mahadev betting app has also involved searches into the proceeds. The team conducted searches to identify how the proceeds were moved and invested. Besides Dubai properties, cryptocurrencies have emerged as another part of the wider money trail linked to the case.

During the initial stages of the investigation, the authorities found that some of the alleged proceeds were connected to crypto investments including Bitcoin and USDT. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had identified that some of the money generated through the Mahadev betting app was invested in these digital assets.

Mahadev Betting App Case Probe Deepens as More Accused Come Under Focus

Following the arrest of Abhishek Kumar, the CBI stated that he had worked closely with other key accused in the Mahadev betting app case, including Saurabh Chandrakar and Shubham Soni. The agency continues to work on the case, attempting to identify more people connected to the case.

It is important to note the wider scale of the case. So far, the CBI has filed eight charge sheets against around 100 accused. These people include main promoters, panel operators, hawala operators, and some public servants in Chhattisgarh. Many others are yet to come under the CBI’s scanner as the investigation continues.

Main Promoters to be Brought Back to India

Interestingly, the CBI is making efforts to bring the main promoters of the Mahadev betting app to India. This is mainly because several key accused are now outside the country. Thus, if they are brought to the country, the investigation and the legal proceedings could move forward smoothly.

The authority has issued seven Red Corner Notices and submitted two extradition proposals. These steps are part of the CBI’s efforts to track down people allegedly involved in the betting network. The team stated, “Efforts are being made to bring the main promoters of the Mahadev Betting App back to India to face trial. So far, 7 Red Corner Notices and 2 Extradition Proposals have been sent and extradition proceedings against 2 accused are underway.”
